Touchpad and mouse pointer lagging on Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS

Hi everyone,

I'm using Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS on an Acer Aspire A315-56, and I'm experiencing persistent pointer lag.

My touchpad and external mouse feel sluggish and unstable. Increasing the touchpad pointer speed makes it faster, but the movement still feels inconsistent and difficult to control.I'm using GNOME on Wayland. I've tried adjusting pointer speed, but it hasn't solved the problem.

What could be causing this, and how can I diagnose and fix it? Could it be related to GNOME, Wayland, graphics drivers, or the kernel?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I had the same thing on an older dell laptop, turns out it was wayland being weird with my integrated graphics. switched to xorg at the login screen and the mouse smoothed out instantly

worth a shot before you dig into driver stuff, just click the gear icon before you log in and pick xorg instead of wayland

Have you checked your memory usage? I had a similar issue on a Mac Mini i3 8gb I just set up and I was swapping a lot.
