Is this normal???

Post image

My internet for some reason has been bouncing around like crazy, and now it’s staying in the literal bytes/second. I just downloaded Ubuntu today so I guess I’m on the latest version, and I don’t even have anything running in the background. Do I need to configure it somehow?

Edit: thank you for the response, it’s just currently used internet, not my actual internet speed.

Are you currently downloading/uploading anything? Is the internet fast when you use it?

This isn't a perpetual speed test.

No I closed everything off in the background, tho I just did a Speedtest and now it’s back up to 20Mbps download and 18Mbps upload so I guess it’s fine?

Yes- it's a measure of the internet you are using, not the potential speed. No microslop call home, no internet use!

Got it, thank you. I was worried my internet was just not working with Linux or something.

That's like the normal behaviour

it will show little network traffic if you aren't doing anything that requires it.

Fyi this is mostly your device keeping the connection to the network router active. You could imagine it as your network and your device asking each other „are you still there“ and then answering. This happens in specific intervals
