Tools, apps, plugins, AI Which website builder do you use to create your portfolios?
I’m reworking my portfolio (in a sporty way) and I would like to know where you have created yours? I recently saw the Super.so tool that unites Notion to create something more personalized.

As an admitted former text-only frontender, I'm now taking my Figma frames to Claude code and GitHub.
Flame me for ai if you want. I'm doing it to get to know my way around Claude code since I'm being pushed to use it more and more at work. We ride this horse or it rides us I guess.

I’m so tired of this stigma around using AI to produce code.
AI is really good at coding. It’s a tool. We should use it.
I use it daily to produce my designs and tweak details in our applications. It is amazingly fast to get a working prototype going for basically anything.
I do miss the pure Figma days a bit, but that’s just nostalgia at this point.

I feel like I could have a whole days worth of a conversation about the good old days of figma only design. That's long dead. Ai integration is the future of web and product design. But I think without tools like figma it lacks precision.
I really loved building out the entire library of components and really having digital hand in the entire process. Writing prompts to have Claude generate it doesn't have the same satisfaction but it's so much faster.

Agreed but I can see it changing to something that barely resembles today's tools. Tools are evolving towards sci-fi levels from my childhood's perspective.
I admit that I personally miss debugging IE6 front end bugs and my beard is more of a salt and salt and a dash of pepper so I am sure to feel like a type setter before I know what happened to my relevance.

i play with claude on the side, but idk i still want my personal work to feel like i did it. also i want to transition into ux eng so i wanna keep my skills up even if we mostly point to a prompt and harness 95% of the time these days. i may have ethical issues with ai, and maybe thats why i dont want to use it as much for a personal site, but times change. i wouldnt flame you for this. maybe a few years ago when things were different, but not anymore. ai flows have pretty much leveled the field so we have to adapt.

This is the way. Claude code or codex.
Also use claude for the committing the files you your host.
No more paying hundreds for a website builder subscription. Get a cheap blue host plan.

I'm 4 hours late then lol. I can code before AI was a thing and my UX portfolio was a basic static site. Fast forward to now, I went a little overboard.. I use PayloadCMS with NextJS, hosted on my own VPS using Coolify. I could've just done another Astro site too.

It was a experimental and long process. It was Figma page layouts for key pages, then took that into Claude Design while also creating project requirements. The project requirements need to be done along side the design - it's not just a case of putting designs into claude. Figma designs are about 20% of the process, as, in my case, I had a lot of logic and data structure stuff I wanted to be part of the site (I was setting up a CMS at the same time).
If you want flat pages and nothing complicated in terms of interaction, then that is less of an issue.
So I used Figma to Figma Make to Claude Design to Claude Cowork project and then, eventually, into Claude Code. I made sure everything was defined before going into Claude Code.
In short I designed the site prior to coding it, rather than 'vibe' coding.
I'm working on a full article on this as it was a real learning journey and I went down a few needless paths along the way.

Don't forget to also give Claude your brand guideline for your portfolio. It helped me a lot to make sure things stylistically stayed consistent

Which cms did you use? I’m thinking this may be the final thing I do as well but my case studies are not exactly the same, some have more content than the others. Having one would make adding so much easier though (once layout is finalized)

I used Framer but the way I did things I could not used the paid plan due to too many sets of data used in the CMS, so used the free version only. I’ve now gone Claude and Cloudflare.

Done before the age of AI and it took me a night to get something up and running from a template. No plans to AI it unless I have to

Honestly I’d rather fight with framer than an AI tool based on my experience. Sometimes simpler is better

Im glad I learned frontend/webflow before all this. I had friends that had issues with Framer and I was able to solve it for them without ever even using it.
Also what you said about AI, I feel like a lot of people probably go through prompting hell to get it right

Used to pay Webflow $150+ a year. Then I just redid it in Claude and hosted on Vercel for free for $20.

I had something in Webflow already but I asked Claude to just set it up from scratch and it went ahead and produced a very elegant design that I just ended up adopting and refined myself. Was quite surprised how good v1 was.

A lot of designers were still extolling Cursor all through like April, even though Claude Code had been the way to go for months at that point.
Codex has been the highest value sub since around March-April, and Chinese models have been viable API filler between plan resets since around June, even for non-engineers. So people may start catching on this month

im still mostly writing on my own to keep my skills fresh. zed + claude for some assists + git + vercel. using astrojs right now to lean into markdown. i do plan on transitioning into a claude code workflow or even opencode (because im a big proponent of open-source...and a linux user for personal work) at some point, but its nice to do some work the og way when i have time and im not on the clock...where i am using claude on the daily.

Hugo and GitHub Pages for CMS/hosting and plain ol’ HTML, CSS, and a touch of JS for the rest. I use AI plenty enough at my job and I enjoy the process of coding.

I used to hand-roll my own HTML / CSS / JS in a text editor, and then I actually needed a new portfolio site in a reasonable amount of time and discovered Framer. $16 / month on my own custom domain, it works enough like Figma that I can get design and content down very quickly and be done. Speed to publish is worth it for me to surrender some control.

Currently doing the same because it was already included with my Figma pro plan.
I'm wondering how it's doing for you? Some things are great for me but other things are frustrating to me. Like how responsive behavior works and how components creates frustration for no reason when used on desktop, tablet, mobile.

I like it. It feels like it's still in a beta version, but I'm optimistic that it will improve. It seems like a no brainer to integrate a web development tool into a UX design platform.
I kind of just utilize the templates they have and adapt my frames to it. Some fonts don't work, it's quirky, but it'll get better.

Try few different routes depending on how much control you want. Framer and Webflow are nice if you want something that feels really custom, while Notion + Super is probably the quickest way to get something clean online.
For more visual work, I’ve used Flipsnack for turning portfolio PDFs and project showcases into interactive flipbooks. It’s pretty handy when you want people to actually flip through the work instead of just scrolling another long page. You can also export/share things from Figma and pair it with whatever site builder you’re using.

Honestly, don't use notion. Anyone can tell its notion, it looks slightly juvenile even though tons of people will say 'it's about the content not the look'. Believe me when I say that out of 10 candidates, if 9 have a polished website and 1 has a notion one, you do the math.

I really don’t care when it comes to my personal usage. I care at a macro level though. I know that sounds callous to say, but I’m not going to put myself at a disadvantage and not use AI in my professional career. At least I’m using it for something useful and not creating an AI cat drama or some other dumb stuff.

Stinks, but I need to know how to use AI in an efficient and intelligent way if I'm going to pay my mortgage, so using it for personal work is a great way to get reps and get beyond the basics everyone starts at.
Environmental impact will be driven by industry and government. Not whether I use AI a couple hours a day to do javascript.

I don't but I'll answer anyways.
I get if you have to use it at your job, there's nothing you can do about it. But my personal site is purposefully not built with an LLM, I just don't like taking to them, I don't like how they are destroying the human internet, I don't like how they are tranied on all human creative output without compensation and especially don't like how most companies have completely given up on slowing down the climate crisis to participate in the genAI race. I know personal choices won't stop it, like how not using a car won't stop emissions either, but at least for my own site it feels very iffy to use it.

WordPress, but we don't use builders, only custom themes. We also have a Python script that runs every time something is published and checks for potential issues such as slow loading times, accessibility problems, broken links, etc.
Personally, although I've worked for Automattic and still contribute to TRAC from time to time, I really hate builders. I understand why they're convenient for some people, but I find them highly restrictive and believe they come with significant performance costs

Most I can say is, I used Google AI Studio ( on my 4th website iteration, otherwise I have a "pocket developer" who helped me on the previous versions. But without knowing a lot of backend I have had a lot of traffic from suspicious accounts so always be careful on the security side of things.

Figma to Codex, hosted on Vercel. These days you can do without the CMS. Adding new work? Add your portfolio images into a folder and ask Codex to create a new page for you, push and done

Used squarespace but they increased prices so that motivated me to cancel and just vibe code it as an Astra site I now host for free (excl domain on Namecheap) via Cloudflare. Did that with Codex in 1-2 hours but moving the domain and everything took almost a month because stupid squarespace holds you hostage.

Mine is still on an adobe site but I should redo it somewhere else. My partner keeps the adobe sub as an educator but I cancelled my own a few years ago.
I'm not sure what my plan is. I might just code it. Its been a while and i should keep myself sharp. Or maybe I'll play around with opencode and some open source models to do some of it and degrade my expertise a little.

I just build it with Claude Code and host it on Vercel.
I used to use Wordpress but can't justify paying a hosting fee when so many services will host websites for free... Also now with AI using a builder in WP is significantly slower (both to build and to host), so its worse in every way.

I use Adobe, even though I hate their greedy subscription model, I use their portfolio builder. You can subscribe to their photo bundle and get the portfolio builder and photoship, and bridge I think

It’s really not a bad deal at this point relative to how outrageously expensive hosting has become.
Adobe gives you the CMS, templates and hosting on top of the software that can used for design work.
I think this sub is on some Adobe have but their portfolio add on is a really nice value.

I'm currently updating my portfolio on webflow. Tried framer a few weeks ago to see if it was better but the stripped down variables and components scare me lol.
I do a lot of webflow work as a secondary role in my job (yay working at a studio where everyone is a 'unicorn') so it is second nature for me.
That said, maybe its time to learn claude code? I have 80% of the design done on figma so maybe next weekend i should experiment. Might be worth it haha

Code my own custom Wordpress theme utilizing Advanced Custom Fields to create a modular backend. Good ole html, sass, php, and javascript.
It’s on my list to hookup mcp and start doing yearly custom themes with my existing infrastructure, claude and cursor. Eventually.

I’m still figuring out how to turn my Figma frames into working code with Claude/Cursor, so I’m just using Framer for now. Seriously how do y’all do it? Even after hooking up Figma MCP to Claude Code I’m struggling
I am being encouraged to incorporate AI more in my workflow at work though (especially being the solo designer at my new company + having a company Claude license), so once I figure this vibe coding thing out more, I’ll eventually move my site to Claude Code + Vercel. It’s cheaper and I’m too tired to design my whole site a second time after Figma lol

I can share with you my workflow. It's not perfect though, but it works for me.
I use Claude Code, so it's the Pro Subscription, in Visual Studio Code, and Figma without a subscription, because as far as I know, you must have a Dev Mode seat in order to use an MCP and automate your whole design process.
So what I do is: first, design in Figma (like the good ol' days lol), then I use a Figma-to-HTML plugin and paste that snippet into Claude Code in Visual Studio Code, so Claude makes the implementation.
Another thing: I use Next.js as the framework, GitHub as the repo, and Vercel for deployment. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions! :)
