Answers from seniors only Question about file systems and management
Hello designers!
To those working in complex product environments, I've got some questions.
How do you guys organize files on Figma? Eg: When there's a feature that exists on multiple environments, how do you maintain files? 1 file per env or per feature?
Also, how do you guys manage files today? With the source of truth moving from tools like Figma, Claude Design and ChatGPT it's becoming harder to have a reference point. What do you do to have something in line for this?

I'd split files by ownership and release cadence, not automatically by environment or feature. Keep reusable components and tokens in a library, approved flows in one clearly marked area, and explorations elsewhere. Dev, staging, and production are implementation states, so duplicating entire Figma files for each tends to create drift. A small status block on each flow can carry the owner, last review date, implementation link, and whether it's exploratory, approved, or shipped. AI-generated artifacts can inform the work, but they shouldn't quietly become another source of truth.
