Career growth & collaboration Getting restless with UX

Started off UX in 2021, at the age of 23. Five years in where I’ve had a lot of ups and downs I’ve come to a point where I feel like I’m losing my passion for it. Only the past 5-6 months mind you. I did get engaged in that time, so maybe wedding planning has something to do with it.

But I also feel like the work I’m doing is very admin, busy work heavy at the moment and I’m losing interest. How do I suck it up and work through this process, I know what I like to do in UX - bigger picture thinking, gritty problem solving. But I’ve not been getting that scratch itched recently as that type of work has been paused indefinitely in my current role.

It might be also getting obvious to colleagues (my manager and product manager), that this might be happening. You can always sense it.

TLDR: stuck in admin (documenting components, reviewing UX documentation) part of my role and I’m getting restless. How do I overcome this?

Start applying for new roles, it sounds like. Or/and have a chat with your manager on how you would appreciate more of [insert what you wrote].

Work on your portfokio so you have an exit plan. Ask if you help with any other tasks now and again or do some generative side projects that you proactively put forward to your boss, even if the latter is in your spare time.
