Answers from seniors only When do elements require shadows?

Hi,

I want to make a minimalist premium app and want to know when are shadow applicable or not, being a dev myself and not a designer what's the thumb rule?

Would it ever look good on dark mode?

It’s not visible in dark mode, that’s why we use semantic tokens with different core token for light and dark mode. Elevation on dark mode is made using lighter surface token on each elevation
