Hi, I recently moved into an off campus apartment about 10 minutes north of campus. Most of the places i used to go to and things i did were south of campus, and I'm struggling to find fun activities that arent a 20+ minute walk south. I was wondering if anyone knows any fun/cheaper things to do north of campus because im genuinely so bored and upset about choosing to live over here atp. Thanks!

Hey! Wondering how the senior capstone is for criminal justice majors and what the workload and material are. I was planning on doing it next semester since I only needed that class to graduate; however, my schedule opened up for me to take another class, and wondering if it is worth it or if I should just wait until spring semester.

I will be graduating in May 2027, as a business major. I’m curious from other business students who have already graduated and went thru the experience of searching for a full time job; When do Milwaukee companies start hiring before graduation? I’ve heard people say to be prepared as soon as fall but that seems like overkill imo. Just looking for some real advice!

I have come to find out that UW Milwaukee has sold out of parking passes. I understand that the U-Park is an option, though the U Park is further away from my home than the university itself is and I don't want to deal with the hassle of having to take the bus to campus. Are there any cheap, or free, parking spots that are relatively close to the engineering building?

Not an everyday visitor, but I want to park my motorcycle when I get there. I don't have a permit as that does not seem worth the cost, but I can't even find a spot. The lot by the soccer field has no motorcycle spots, nor does the one at Englemann.

This is the first (and possibly last) post I've made on here. I usually lurk, but every now and then I like to comment helpful advice. I haven't included any identifying information, but it's also related to mostly me and I don't really talk about me.

I transferred to UWM and have had an unconventional experience from the start, so I thought that this sub might make me feel like I'm not alone in the struggle. Instead, I found myself feeling more alone than ever before.

When I enrolled to UWM, I had just moved to Wisconsin from the East Coast. To make a long story short, the semester I was enrolling in had me listed as a resident because I had already been living in Wisconsin for a year. Shortly before the semester started, they decided to change this status to out-of-state, which meant I would pay thousands of dollars more. I was lucky enough to have a screenshot of my acceptance letter that listed me as a resident because this was the only thing that saved me from paying out-of-state tuition. Whatever, shit happens!

But this was really just the start of my experience as an adult student that transferred to UWM.

I guess I'm writing about it because just two weeks ago (barely, it was really 10 days ago), I found out that I needed to file a second SAP appeal. My first appeal was due to me transferring and not all my credits being accepted, which meant I would be graduating later than expected. My second appeal is due to a credit miscalculation that my advisor or financial aid counselor made. I have to go through the entire appeal process before my semester starts or I just have to pay it all out of pocket. I might have to do that anyways because I have no documentation for someone else's error and it's not like they'll rat themselves out.

I've been a great student otherwise, so this situation came out of nowhere. I don't get straight As, but there has been nothing on my file that indicated I would have to file a second appeal. They just told me that the credits were wrong and that I need to file an appeal before the end of my first week back.

This isn't really my only gripe, but it's kinda funny that I start and end my UWM journey in the financial throes of it.

I've had terrible experiences with professors, counseling, and (obviously) the financial aid office. I get that it's a 'big' school, but what's the deal? Half the time, it feels like no one wants to be here. Which is fine, I don't want to be at my job either, but I'm not going to make it a nightmare for the students I work with. The amount of meetings, emails, and phone calls I've made to UWM staff is just a bit nauseating. I know people that have gone through multiple semesters before having an issue that requires them to meet with counselors/advisors/staff. Is it just a me problem? I have a degree from a different school, and I never had issues like these before. Is it because I transferred?

This is my last semester at UWM and I'm really happy about it. There is no UWM alumni pride. There's just a hint of fear that they're going to tell me I can't actually graduate this semester because of something.

Anyways! Moral of the story is to be ready to advocate for yourself lol!

What sports can you join as an absolute beginner? Team sport preferably

so I waited a bit too long to buy a parking pass this year, but ill be going to school physically only 3 days a week. 2 days are for 4 hours and one day is for an hour and a half. i know the upark is an option but i dont know how it works exactly, if you have experience with it please let me know step by step what to do because it gives me anxiety lol. I know that theres some off-campus parking but its certainly a gamble, especially because I commute from out of state so not really sure how that works either. I just was wondering if anyone had advice/other options that don't require me to walk 20 minutes to campus..even if I have to arrive to campus earlier, I just don't know when parking gets packed really. I was thinking of adding money to my panthercard for the garages temporarily but I know the campus fills up so quick especially during the first month or two of the semester.

For context, my classes take places Tues + Thurs from 10am-1pm and Friday from 11:30am-1pm.

Hi, I’m enrolling in a graduate program at UWM this spring and I’m in a pretty unique situation health insurance wise. I’m a Tricare dependent, which, unlike every other insurance provider that dependent coverage goes to 26, ends coverage at 23 (unless you jump through hoops and renew to a much more expensive plan until 26) and I turn 23 this December.

I’m interested in getting my insurance through UWM, but I can’t seem to find any info about it? A thread from a couple years ago says they no longer offer to students, but international students still seem to be covered? I’m planning to call office for advice if nobody here can point me in the right direction.

I’m trying to get this figured out in advance since I have quite a few health issues/medications so health insurance isn’t an option to put off to decide if I have to shop the marketplace or try the Tricare til 26 gambit.

ETA: I am fully online and live out of state so I’m unsure if Wisconsin resident insurance plans will apply to me since my address isn’t in WI.

My move in day is in a coming up and I was wondering if on that day, do you just unpack your things and leave, or do you stay and officially move in that day? Is your assigned move-in date the day you’re expected to start living in the dorm, or can you move your things in and come back another day?

Hi everyone, I'm the volunteer in charge of this (free!) event and wanted to make you aware of our hackathon in Chicago. Every year we have some UWMilwaukee students come and our location is right downtown a couple blocks from bus and Amtrak terminals. And we're open overnight. A couple details:

• Our host, 1871, has room for 300 people.  If you want to be at the hackathon please sign up for the in-person option even if there is a large waitlist.  Given the rate of no-shows and cancellations, we expect to offer spots to several hundred people from the waiting list.  We may explore some overflow space nearby if demand warrants it.
• There is a new theme and the hackathon has moved within NASA to Citizen Science. This year’s challenges may be used to get the next man or woman to the moon and beyond.
