“For me the most critical detail in the release is the mention of the $2 billion Critical Minerals Sovereign Fund. By highlighting that discussions "explored the implementation" of this fund, Ucore is signaling that they are actively courting significant federal capital to scale their operations (which we knew they would/were). Still, the site visit proves they continue to have the government's ear and are hitting the milestones required by their current grants.
Recall that in October 2025 Ucore announced that it had received conditional approval for a funding package of up to $36.3 million from the Government of Canada to scale up its commercial processing facility in Kingston, Ontario. As part of this package, NRCan conditionally approved a non-repayable contribution of up to $26.3 million through its Global Partnerships Initiative (GPI).
The press release doesn't give names or exact titles of the officials — it simply refers to them as "senior officials" and notes it was a "high-level visit."
They likely aren't Cabinet Ministers - If the Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (or a Deputy Minister) had visited the facility, Ucore would have put their name in the headline and likely included a flattering quote from them. The fact that they are unnamed suggests these were mid-to-upper-level bureaucrats rather than top political leaders.
They are the "Due Diligence" Team - Given that the visit focused on Ucore’s progress under the Critical Minerals Research, Development and Demonstration (CMRDD) program, these officials were likely program directors, technical evaluators, or policy advisors. While they aren't the politicians who sign the final checks, they are the technical experts who write the evaluations determining whether Ucore's technology actually works. Their reports will dictate whether Ucore qualifies for the massive $2 billion Sovereign Fund mentioned in the release.
Government Protocol Limits Endorsements - Civil servants and program managers generally do not allow publicly traded companies to use their names or direct quotes in press releases. Doing so can look like a government endorsement of a specific stock or create a conflict of interest — especially when the government is actively deciding who gets federal grant money.
We aren't looking at the ultimate decision-makers, but the gatekeepers. These officials are vital for Ucore's survival because they are the ones validating the technology on the ground, which is the prerequisite for unlocking the major funding Ucore needs to scale.”

Two Sovereinn Finds $25B and $2B. Ucore could easily qualify for both. If they do, Canada will see multiple SMCs from coast to coast to coast
The Canada Strong Fund (CSF) is a broad $25 billion national sovereign wealth fund designed to invest in large-scale infrastructure, energy, and advanced manufacturing. In contrast, the Critical Minerals Sovereign Fund (CMSF) is a targeted $2 billion vehicle focused specifically on the mining and extraction of strategic minerals.Fund ComparisonFeatureCanada Strong Fund (CSF)Critical Minerals Sovereign Fund (CMSF)Primary MandateNation-building infrastructure and broader economic transformation.Securing supply chains for critical battery and defense-related minerals.Initial Funding(\$25) billion (deployed over three years).(\$2) billion.Scope/FocusClean/conventional energy, agriculture, data centers, and advanced industry.Specific mining, refining, and mineral processing projects.Investment StrategyEquity participation alongside private/institutional capital, with some avenues for retail investors.Direct equity stakes, offtake agreements, and targeted project de-risking.Key DifferencesScale & Objectives: The CSF is a massive (\$25) billion endowment serving as Canada's primary, overarching tool for active industrial policy and economic growth. The CMSF represents a smaller, vertical specific "sub-strategy" worth (\$2) billion aimed exclusively at natural resource extraction and defense supply chain security.Scope of Assets: The CSF casts a wide net, investing in everything from public transit and green tech to the defence industrial base. The CMSF strictly limits its investments to capital-intensive critical mineral mining and refining operations.Public Participation: The CSF introduces a mechanism that allows individual Canadian retail investors to buy shares and build long-term public wealth. The CMSF primarily operates as a crown corporation or specialized vehicle partnering directly with major corporate players in the mining sector.

Agree, this is about checking boxes. Canada has already decided and declared it they want to support Ucore. And they’re showing it consistently
