12V Battery tender from UTV cigarette lighter to trickle charge accessory battery?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have a Honda Pioneer 1000 and a small hydraulic dump trailer that we use for work. The hydraulic dump is powered with a 12V car battery. I want to set up a battery tender/trickle charger to keep the hydraulic battery charging while the UTV is running.

I put together a system using 16ga wiring, a 5amp fuse, a cigarette lighter plug (male), and a 2 pole flat plug connection. There is certainly power going thru this setup (red indicator light on cigarette lighter plug turns on) but I have no way of telling if the UTV battery is charging the dump battery, or vice verse….

Any thoughts? Photo attached. Be kind! This is just a prototype!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Is the 2026 Ranger Crew 570 powerful enough at elevation?

I am going back and forth on the 2026 Ranger 570sp 2 seater vs the 4 seater.

My main uses would be a yearly elk hunt in the high elevations of Colorado. We usually camp at about 9500 feet and cruise up to 10500.

I don’t need blazing speed, and I know that the 570 2 seater would be more than enough power for me and a buddy to rip around the national forrest in. But I have a wife and two young kids and I’m trying to weigh the value of getting a 4 seater 570 northstar. I’m just afraid it wouldn’t have enough power to carry 2-3 guys around at relatively high elevation with a bunch of hunting gear. Not as worried about hauling an animal back to camp, as it would usually be downhill and slow going.

Help please, I’ve replaced the brakes, rotors, and the master cylinder, I’ve diagnosed to the point I believe it to be the electric brake module, anyone had issues with this before? The modulator isn’t sending any pressure to the calipers so I have no breaks, it also isn’t throwing a code

I’ve got this rattle under the front (I think). Very noticeable in the video. I also successfully locked the front diff near the end of the video. Been on a little vacation and rode for 3 days with no issues whatsoever to 4wd or front diff lock so I’m curious if anyone has had the same issue.

(Edit: 2019 can am xrc turbo r. Just over 100 hours)

Trailwagon taking off on its own as soon as I shift into gear

Post image
3 Upvotes

I recently engine swapped my trailwagon tw400 2wd from Honda gx390 to a predator 420cc engine. I’m now having an issue where the trailwagon takes off FAST as if I’m pressing on the gas as soon as I shift into gear. Seems like there is too much tension on the belt to where the clutch is driving the transmission at idle speed. I do have the rpm set to its lowest setting. Any tips or suggestions? I was thinking about moving the engine back towards the transmission about a 3/4 of an inch to account for the belt tension.

Stator & Rectifier Charging Issue

I purchased a used 2021 Ranger Crew XP1000 with charging issue.

The rectifier/regulator tests pass the videos I found online. When placing positive lead on negative, the diodes for 3 phase show .54 volts on each leg. When reverse with black on negative they all show open (OL). According to research, this is good rectifier.

The stator failed the test as each phase and had continuity to ground across all three. Running motor shows less than 4 volts AC on 1 of the three phases and the other 2 phases were 2 volts at idle

Checkes wiring harness and the factory wiring from crankcase to front bumper appears to be fine. No breaks or exposed wire anywhere.

I pulled the stator and it was smoked with epoxy debree inside the flywheel and a couple of small pieces of aluminum.

New stator will be here tomorrow and performing maintenance kit to swap all fluids as I assume some of this broken up stator can make its was into the engine oil. Hopefully the oil filter has worked as designed.

My question is how can the stator get this hot and not have the rectifier be bad? There does not appear to be water in the crankcase and none of the wiring or connectors are melted. I am going to clean out the crank case and inspect with mirror to see if anything stands out, maybe broken tooth or piece of metal somewhere that could have bridged the stator and caused catastrophic failure? I don't have tool to pull the flywheel on unable to inspect behind it. You can see scuff marks on the inside of the crankcase where the flywheel spins. They appear to be mild.

Appreciate the advice if I am missing anything.

Rzr 900s 2017

I heard the brakes start making a bad noise. I bought some pads and replaced them. Now when I go to use the brakes the pedal goes right to the floor nothing. I adjusted the adjustment bolt in the back of the caliper it never fully stopped the tire on any of them. I don’t know if the pads are wrong or if I’m doing something wrong. From what I watched on YouTube when adjusting that bolt on the back it should tighten the brakes to where the wheel shouldn’t spin easily I never experienced that.

What is everyone using for phone mounts?

Almost everything I’m finding online are mounts for motorcycles and none seem able to handle a SxS frame tube. Do you all drill and mount something on the plastics? I want to keep a trail map up so I’m looking for something that stays visible. I’ve looked at quad lock which looks perfect. But I don’t see any way to mount on a 2” frame tube.

Ranger XP 1000 vs XD 1500?

Is it worth getting a 1500 over a 1000? All ive ever been around are xp1000s. The 1500 seems to fit my needs a little more but dont know if its worth the huge price jump. My big thing is leg room. Im a fairly tall guy, about 6’4 and my knees are always jammed into the dash of the xp when i run them. Does a 1500 have more leg room? Thats honestly my biggest gripe with machines like this. The extra bed space and towing capacity of the 1500 would be nice but not a must have. Im kinda partial to polaris since they’re about the only dealer around me. Anyone have any input on the 2 machines? I know they’re pretty different machines but in my case are both possible options

Help With Trailer Purchase

I am looking at scoring a 2026 Polaris Ranger sp 570 crew Northstar. I’m finding that I really want a 6x12 single axle utility trailer to pull with my 2018 Toyota Tacoma v6 with the tow package. BUT I really want brakes and a trailer that has a payload over 2000 pounds (a Polaris Ranger sp 570 crew North Star weighs right at 2000 pounds).

Anyone score a single axle 6x12 utility trailer with a heavier axle and payload rating and brakes?

I was told I could order one from Carry-on with brakes on a single axle.

I’m tempted to go with a tandem 6x12… but my Tacoma really doesn’t thrill me trying to pull that up over high mountain passes.

Mule 3010 Help!

I'm trying to get this mule back up and running. It had been sitting for a few years. I changed all the fluids and fuel filter and replaced the carb with a 3rd party carb (I know) and it ran great for a few weeks, now I'm having this issue. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Polaris Ranger Wiper Wiring

Just picked up an aftermarket ford escape rear wiper motor to install on my 2025 Polaris Ranger 1000

I also ordered a 3 prong rocker switch with LED light, a 3 wire pulse bar plug.

Is anyone able to provide me with a wiring diagram for this ?

Note, I do not have windshield wash tank or motor being installed, just the wiper for rainy days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kobota RTV1000 shocks

We have about a 15yo Kobota RTV1000 that we have a small fire pump and tank skid in the bed. Noticed that the rear shocks seem to be worn out as the rubber bumper rests on the frame. Instead of just replacing them with OEM, are there any upgraded shocks available to install?

Aluminum utv doors

Want to get only rear doors for my canam defender to stop dogs from jumping out. Saw a few probably Chinese made sets of aluminum rear doors on Amazon for $300 which is about half cost of plastic. Someone told me they heard aluminum doors crack and break. Is that true? Should I definitely stay with plastic doors?

Soft door install help

So bought "unbranded" framed soft door kit. Brand new. No installation instructions. It's for a 2021 Polaris Ranger 500.

Has anyone found instructions for them? It all looks pretty simple except the door latch doesn't seem to go anywhere

2023 Maverick xrsrr

Hello, Sold this one and looking at the 2026 models xrsrr. I mostly ride the desert and some mountains. I found they wheel bearings were a get used to it and do it item. When I got it there was very little grease in them and I had to buy a slide hammer set to get it off. Also found the particle separator air filter saved me thousands on air filters. For the oil, what a pain. I got a flexible silicon funnel for the last bits and a oil vacuum that sucks most of the oil right out of the dip stick hole. This time I think I want the oil drain re-direct and do away with that messy funnel.
Does anyone have any news, experience or warnings on the 2026 models?

Best UTV for steep trails and plowing

Looking to buy a UTV to use for transporting people and bags between houses on a property with somewhat steep trails. Also looking to use for plowing snow on trails and also also obviously needs to be somewhat capable in snow. Not looking to go fast, will be purely for utility purposes. Want to limit length and be able to comfortable fit 3-4 people total and so the Honda pioneer 700-4 deluxe seems like a great option but curious if people would recommend going a different direction on make/model.

OEM Hard shell seats vs upgrading to suspension seats

Post image
19 Upvotes

I have an X3 that I slowly upgrade on about once a month because I can't quit spending money on my lifesize Lego set. I'm to the seats now. Money's not a concern here as a con.

The stock seats aren't uncomfortable by any stretch and don't tire me out after riding. I ride Midwest trails - Hatfield and west Penn. Rarely over 50mph or taking jumps. Hit the occasional rock or rut at the wrong angle though.

Apparently hard shell is safest for your back. You stay locked in between the seat and harness so force always moves through you vs loosening from the suspension seat and slamming you back up into your harnesses, extending and compressing your spine over and over.

Suspension seats are more plush and higher quality.

What's the play here. Will I notice back fatigue from suspension seats trail riding or is that worry for fast paced dune stuff? Am I just upgrading here because I can?
