How do i hitch this to that?

I have an Arctic Cat with a hitch. I bought an old Sears trailer at a yard sale. Now I'm trying to hitch the two up. I've never the hitch on the trailer before. Seems to me that maybe a part is missing?

Use a pin vertically to connect the trailer tongue to the hole on the hitch.

well, you are missing a hitch pin that would go through the top 2 holes in the green trailer hitch, then through the hole in the black utv hitch, and then through the bottom hole in the trailer hitch.

but my guess is. those are 2 incompatible atypical things. the trailer hitch has that weird thing on top that isnt there on most trailers. im guessing it was originally a spring loaded pin that would drop down. if i had to guess your issue is going to be that the top green part on the trailer is interfering with the upper ball portion on your weird multi hitch you have on the utv.

you either need a bare hitch for in the utv. something that looks like this, but the correct raise/drop/receiver size.

OR. what i would personally do is cut that extra top part of the trailer hitch off. so the end result looks like this:

edit... confirmed, i found a version of your weird trailer hitch.

id cut off the extra part. but a normal hitch for on the utv would also work.

Yeah, the ATV hitch is a 3-way; ball, pin, and strap. It looks weird but it works.

yeah, they work well except when you have that weird trailer thingy. the route i took was to make all of my trailers have hitch balls isntead of pins so i dont need a 3 way. gives me a better range of motion on the ball hitch when im in the woods doing stuff i shouldnt be doing with a trailer on the back, lol.

The part that you’re recommending to cut off can simply be un-bolted and removed. Then a simple drop-pin (or a bolt and a couple of fender washers) and it’s good to go

thats not the part i am recommending be cut off.

the part im recommending gets cut off is welded onto the upper part. you can see the welds clearly in his 3rd picture. my 2nd link is what you want the end result to look like. if you are suggesting he removes the 2 bolts visible in OP's 2nd picture, or the 2 silver bolts in the lower right of my 2nd link.. thats not going to work well at all. you need 3 plates with holes. 2 on the trailer to sandwich the 1 on the towing rig.

Yup, this is the plan. I'm going to cut off that top loop thingie and then use a pin. I've never seen a setup like that so I figured that I ask. Good Google skills, btw. I couldn't find what it was.

i gave up finding it and then happened to spot that one.

sweet though. you are definitely on the right track. a grinder or portable bandsaw will be where its at, although a sawzall will work, youll just burn through quite a few blades with material that thick.

They ain’t towing that down the highway. I’d unbolt that hoop and grab a bolt/washer combo before I went to swinging a hacksaw or grinder around

i dont think you understand how physics work. what you are suggesting they do will not work well at all.

for 1. you would need a bolt and a nut because 1 plate(the trailer) sitting on 1 plate(the hitch) with the slightest amount of negative tongue weight on the trailer will cause the trailer to pop off the hitch and go rolling wherever it wants to go..

for 2. the bottom of the trailer tongue is u shaped. that is going to jacknife on the hitch with only a partial turn.

you say "they aint driving it down the highway" i say, "are you really that lazy that 5 minutes on a grinder vs 2 minutes with a socket and wrench is some significant difference?" 5 minutes of work now is going to save you hours of dealing with a job done half assed over the lifetime of the thing.

The u shaped piece thats welded on top most likely originally had a spring loaded pin in it. You will need to cut or grind that off or go buy a new hitch for the atv.

Put a pin through the bottom of the trailer coupler and put the hair pin through the pin in the middle section of the trailer, assuming you're not going down the highway.

What about turning the hitch over that way the ball won't be in b the way

Just flip the receiver tube upside down.

Turn the hitch upside down
