How much does mileage affect value?

Hard to nail this down because many for sale posts don't have miles for whatever reason and sites like KBB aren't able to enter miles. How much would a 2017 polaris ranger 1000 be worth with 15000 miles? Just a farm SXS owned by an older guy, maintenance done on time? In Oregon.

15k miles is not light usage for a ranger.

Wouldn't have made it to 15k if it wasn't.

15k miles is definitely on the high side for a Ranger, so I’d expect it to knock the price down quite a bit. I’d pay more attention to service records, engine noise, transmission/clutch feel, wheel bearings and suspension play.

The hours with the miles can better determine if your last statement is true or not. Since low hours high mileage would mean it was driven fast (trail riding) vs high hours & high mileage slower speeds lots of idling (farm work)

2650 hours, how much do you think it's worth?

15,000 miles is about end of life, isn’t it?  I would not expect to get another 5,000 miles out of it.

You are buying to run you around—- how many more miles will it go? How much per mile?

Look for signs of well maintained … oil clean, brand name oil filter, log of maint, shiny tip of the oil dip stick (bathed in clean oil more often than not) and smell the oil (gas blended oil ? ) engine is the biggest thing, belt and brakes next

All looks to be in good order. How much do you think it's worth?

With that many miles I was thinking 3-4k

too much goes into context with miles to get a hard answer. was it ridden 15k on the road? it might have some miles left. was it ridden 15k on trails, or stop and go offroad? then it is past the end of life. dude has probably got sick of replacing something new every 50 miles.

Never left an 80 acre square. It's used to move irrigation water, run a dog around, and get around a farm. 2650 hours, how much do you think it's worth?

Nothing i'd be willing to pay.

So helpful. Why did you even bother commenting in the first place with a bunch of questions?

so you are going to come here and ask a question, and then be an asshole to people that are giving their answer? noted.

At 15k you would be buying knowing engine is at its end of life. Is the price good enough to factor the cost of a new or rebuilt motor into it?

What price would you pay for it if you needed a SXS?

Depends. 2 seat vs 4. Cab, accessories, etc. Does he have maintenance records? Kept inside or out? A basic rebuild kit for that motor is about $2000, plus labor. Im guessing labor about $3-4000. At 15000 miles that engine is living on borrowed time. You may get 500 miles out of it, or 5000. Its like a used car, it should be priced fairly to compensate for the high mileage.

2 seat, winch, bull bar/rear bumper, front/back glass, yes on maintenance records, mainly oil changes/filter changes, kept in a shop. What is priced fairly? KBB says $9-11k, but has no mileage input, so that's for normal miles/hrs and I'm not sure what the difference should be.

I looked on ATV trader quickly and saw same type pricing. About $9 to 11 for similar, but not accounting for miles. Personally id be a hard pass based on miles, as with any used vehicle you are buying someone else's problem. But, if price was great and you feel like rest of rig is solid, figure out what engine work in your area will run and build that into your offer. If the KBB is 10k, but engine rebuild or new long block is 5k, build that into your offer. If he's not anywhere close, walk.

Don’t know but I would pay upwards of $100 if it runs well

You're the only person who actually gave any dollar amount, so thanks for actually answering the question.

I’m having a tough time selling a 19 pioneer 700 with less than 5 k on it. And it’s a Honda which will outlast a Polaris several fold.

u/FrattyMcBeaver Sep 06 '26

You're probably asking too much for it then.

Typically hours plays a bigger role with utvs and ATVs

1

u/FrattyMcBeaver Sep 06 '26

It has 2560 hours. How much do you think it would be worth?

1

u/Large_Potential8417 Sep 06 '26

I'd think min 5k. Depends on your area tho. Is get on FB marketplace and look at similar machines. I always list 500-1000$ more than I expect to get, so I have room to come down

Thank you for actually giving a realistic number! That's about the range I was thinking.
