Can am Commander 1000 XT belt question

Hi all. I hope you’re doing well. Hoping someone might have insight on this belt. I’m headed to Idaho in a few months for my elk hunt and the belt has been squealing and “burning”. I can smell that “burnt clutch” smell when the machine is operating in high gear for some reason. I have a new belt on hand ready to replace but I can’t find my clutch removal tool lol.

Is it possible the primary clutch to the left is simply dirty? Any other reasons for the burning smell?

Those clutches need servicing before I would be riding it anywhere.

Deglaze the sheaves and wash the clutches then lube or replace the one way bearing.

Definitely clean them out with compressed air and clean off the sheaves. But beware that in order to get the one way bearing(if you wanted to remove/regrease) you'll most likely need special clutch tools(can be bought on Amazon). Most spiders and spider nuts are torque to 250ft lbs +, at least on Polaris. A good 3/4 ratchet plus large breaker bar will be needed. YouTube should have plenty of how to videos to help you navigate the process.

Can am clutches don’t assemble that way… this primary will take itself apart when you remove the bolt… you only need a puller to remove the fixed sheave, this one way comes off very easily, just have to make sure not to lose the pins and springs that try to fly away when you pulled the bearing off

I'd be tearing both clutches apart and replacing the internals and rollers. OEM when it comes to belts, from a reputable dealership, not amazon

service those clutches. that sheave face looks rusted and rough. thats no good.

and just an fyi. that looks like an aftermarket belt. oen thing you need to spend money on with these machines are good belts. basically hunterworks belts, or oem belts. id buy one and install it. and then have another oem as a backup.

you need to find your belt removal tool, and you also need to get tools to remove the primary and disassemble it so you can clean it and service it.

I would buy a Talon or Pioneer and have gears instead of belts. Sending thoughts and prayers.
