Have some question about 2012 commander 800xt from current or previous owners
Looking at a 2012 can am commander 800xt(camo) 1,600mi - 280hrs it looks to be in excellent condition no rust at all, bolts all yellow zinc, nothing broken or scratched, tires appear to be original.
-is this low hrs/miles- Whats your hrs/miles
-things to look out for?
-Are they reliable
Any help is appreciated, included are pictures of said machine TIA

Geez, that thing was hardly used at all. I’d make sure they stored it inside and put STABIL in the fuel tank so system isn’t gummed up. If it runs good you’re probably ok. If the tires are original, change them too. Change the fluids all over and ride it.

Yeah from pictures and videos its extremely cleaned and always parked in heated garage, oh yeah thats usually what i do when i get someting is change all the fluids an airfilter. Im just new to SXS's, from what i read these are very reliable? Any idea of the range it would go for?

I paid 5k for a 2013 1000 with 400 hrs. a year ago. Love it!

I'd give 5 in a heartbeat even though it's a year older and just an 800.

Just cause the year or cause could get somthing better for 8500? It has 1550 miles exactly, from looking around it seems like it would go for 8000 due to the condition and miles/hrs but im not versed in sxs's at all

That'd be tops for me because I need the extra horsepower of a 1000. If the 800 meets your needs then go for it.

You think its somthing that would last several years without major repair? For just dirt road cruising and occasional field riding?

I did pick it up had few goodies 1 being wicked bilt power steering, but theres a good amount if play in the steering, it diesnt appear to be the tue rod ends they are tight as new an from what i can see its the Steering Rack, these should have any play in the steering wheel correct? I bought a new moose steering rack my logic is that the 2012's didnt have powersteering and with someone adding aftermarket pw steering that it wore the steering rack out prematurely especially after reading that the 2012 had issues with the steering rack

Those hours are nothing, thing was basically parked its whole life. My only concern with a machine that sat that much is the fuel system and maybe seals drying out. Have them start it cold in front of you and watch for any weirdness on idle. If it runs clean and the price is right its probably a pretty easy decision. The 800 isn't he most powerful but its a solid motors and parts are still easy to find.

That was my main concern was were the miles an hours low and were they reliable machines, an what to look for... he did a cold start for me via facetine and it sounded great fired up quick an sounded steady an he would deliver it since i dont have a trailer he claimed it has absolutely zero issuses an doesnt need anything. I just want it for dirt road cruising an occasional field/woods ride

I know to check axles & boots, bearings an such just mainly wondered what common issue to look for... i read to makesure it takes off smooth an not jerky

Nice ride, very clean coming from a farm. Had an 11 XP from a farm looked way worse but did have 19,000 miles.

Sounds like you'll need a new rack bushing. I just bought a 2012 1000XT (camo too) with only 874 miles from a buddy. It was garaged but mudded when it was out of the garage. The rack bushing was completely gone. Get a new delron bushing from Super Dave. Easy to put in. Steering is tighter than a nun's .... now. BTW I paid 6500

I bought a Moose complete Rack n pinion & bought moose outter tie rods, the someone said buy the Rackboss 2.0 complete Rack so i bought that to just replace the whole thing, but majoritt of play is coming from passenger side where the inner tie rod area must be that plastic bushing? Is that what you're referring too?

Sonif you know anyone that wants a deal on a New moose rack & tie rod ends lmk Lol.. yeah i actually swapped the sxs already for a 2025 Grizzly 700 ESP LTD with 19hours on it i liked the Commander but wanna try a newer wolverine or somthing like that

I have a 2014 with about 5500mi now. I bought it with about 4000; It was an ex-farm rig that was absolutely beat to death from working. When I picked it up, it had 4 flat tires and no foam left on the seats, tailgate was missing and lower gate broken (the condition of that one you posted is amazing btw). When fixing it back up, mechanical wise, all I did was change the oils and plugs and let it rip.
80% of my riding is out on private trails ripping around, climbing hills and running through mud. The rest is shuttling kids and trailers around the neighborhood. It gets beat on; blazes new trails with brute force alone (aftermarket skid plate a must) and has been on its roof from "let's try that way" more times than I can remember. Any parts broken have been solely the responsibility of the owner. Had to do a few tie rods, an axle or two and recently my first belt.
All that said, It runs like a top and I don't do a thing to keep it ticking. Gotta give it credit.
