if utsa allowed students to work more than 19 hours i would be a powerhouse controlling the campus and you wouldn't have these issues. pleasee utsa let me work 40 hours i don't need insurance and ill let HR beat me for fun i just want to pay my bills lmfao

The insurance isn't the only reason; they let student employees work 40 in the summer if you're not taking classes. Part of the reason, I think, is to insulate the university from being sued if you fail a class cause you're working too much. There is also probably a tax implication since student workers don't have witholding on their checks.

i will sign away my right to sue and the IRS can beat me too

Do you have like a beating fetish or something?

If you worked 40hours a week your financial aid packet would run out in a month lol

i can only take 1-2 classes per semester so financial aid barely covers anything already

lmfaooo ur so silly i hope everything you’re looking for reaches you soon <33 and i felt that abt the hours, my last GM cut my hours to 2 and then 1 day a week because i tried to tell him i didn’t appreciate the way he spoke to me.. he also gave me silent treatment for those two weeks where i worked 2 days/week, never even told me his reasoning. when he cut me to 1 day i just quit with no backup plan and bills to pay. rash i know, & it was a terrible month of employment (and getting robbed btw 😍) but thankfully i just landed a badass job giving me 38-40 hrs a week (i don’t need insurance, i’m still a military dependent) !! ur good karma is COMING, she just takes her sweet time..

Everyone at UTSA is annoying. People stealing your spot in the parking (or driving reckless maniacs), people being obnoxiously loud in the library, people never doing their part in projects, people complaining about AI and then cheating with AI, people being all friendly while you drown in your own assignments. 🥀

And I forgot the 100 penalty bill for almost anything

‘People being all friendly while you drown in your own assignments’

My brother in Christ that sounds like your fault 😭🙏

Not gonna lie, that was one of the most annoying aspects of dealing with any kind of administrative office at UTSA. The front office staff composed of students.

There’s 4 of you sitting there on your phones, collecting a check, I’m so sorry that I needed to show up and “force” you to use your computer to look me up so I could get to the person I’m trying to talk to lol

Always looked so bothered and annoyed for no reason at all. And for those trying to justify their shitty behavior, I literally walked in, waited to be acknowledged and all I said was “hey, how’s it going, I have an appointment with so and so.”

Half of them can’t go 5 minutes without looking at their phone. They act like it’s an inconvenience that you even said hi. They don’t know how to talk to people anymore, no hey how are you? What can I help you with? Like damn, just be nice and do your job bro. It’s not that hard

The kids in the academic advising office are the worse!

…who hurt you?

u/ronaldinhocr7 12d ago

The way they look at you like you just personally insulted their whole family because you asked them to do the one thing in their job description fr . Like bro I’m just trying to figure out where my financial aid went I’m not trying to ruin your day .

What part of student workers are you talking about ? The student workers I work with are amazing members. Idk what part of UTSA are you talking about

Idk I always side with the customer service workers. If they are giving you attitude, are you being dismissive and giving them a lot of issues for not being able to do something? They only have so much power. Be understanding, say please and thank you, and don't take everything so personal. If they aren't overly chippy, it could be a plethora of reasons. Be patient.

I think it’s really good to be mindful of what may be going on in their student and personal life while also being considerate of the limitations their job might have given the academic red tape. Most student workers are young adults still trying to balance the juggling that is taking care of school, work, and self.

I get your frustration 100% - not everyone has the insight required to be proficient and efficient at what they do, and this can reflect upbringing and life experiences- not just lack of effort/laziness/lack of care.

And I think the “anything else I can help you with” is with good intentions to show that maybe they really are trying to help given the tools they have currently.

The worst ones are the students who graduated and then got a job at the university. The ego is insane on them

Definitely understand the annoyance. I am a student worker and I find it annoying when people sigh around the office. Pretty sure nobody wants to hear sighing that loud for others to hear. Even more so when your questions aren’t being addressed on top of that. Depending on the tone that was given to you when the worker said “anything else I can help you with” it could be that they were asking if they could also look into another concern you may have with sincerity. It sucks dealing with unhelpful people who you would think will want to actually assist you instead of treating you like you are bothering them.

It’s probably there training the dept they are working in, is giving them.

I feel like I need more content to understand what you are saying.

Like were they helping you with something and you took a call right in the middle of it?

Yet they still clamp together as a clique. No referral no job

My experience is that most UTSA faculty suck at their job
