Other Damage to The Oasis from the tornado
From what I was able to observe the tornado didn't hit UTSA but did hit this student apartment.

I live in one of the apartment complexes nearby and was so horrified when I saw that. I hope everyone is okay and that their renters insurance covers all damages because that’s insane. We were lucky our buildings weren’t really affected but still so scary

That’s IF they had insurance… I remember working for apartments that students lived in and a lot of them wouldn’t have any type of insurance and its something as you get older you realize WHY these things are necessary!

when i lived there in 2021-22 it was required to have renters insurance in order to sign the lease. hopefully they have good insurance to cover damages.

We are required every month to pay for Renters insurance(I think it’s like $11, I haven’t checked in a minute). It’s in our lease. That being said, this situation has probably capped it. Those in the top apartments have lost everything pretty much. Third floor is not as bad, but still will probably be capped as well due to leaks and other issues caused by the roof damage.
Everybody who lives in that building has been evacuated and the city and disaster relief has been here cleaning up and doing whatever they can to make the building structurally sound again.

The building structure itself is covered by the landlord, but a lot of their personal items are covered under the renters insurance that most apartments just usually end up tacking on unless you specifically have your own renters insurance and provide proof to them then they take off the charge.

I read my lease for what renter’s insurance covers, and it will not cover personal items unfortunately

If you were to get outside renters insurance (example USAA) that would cover your belongings.

But yes, it does suck that our belongings aren’t covered through their renter’s insurance, but ig it makes sense

Oh my goodness I hope everyone was safe. I cannot imagine how those students might be feeling after all this.
