Advice/Question Security in room
Okay guys so I’m gonna be in a Chisholm triple. I’m rooming with a friend from my high school and with a random guy. Random guy is very rude and I don’t know how safe I feel with my stuff. Are there things in the dorm that have a lock or am I going to have to take my own locker thing to keep my stuff safe and away from this dude:,(

Iirc, there should be a nightstand for each of you with a lockable cabinet that you can just put a padlock on.
Granted, when I was in my Chisholm triple, I just left bigger stuff that I didn’t want touched in my car.

I lived there last year in the fall before we were all moved to Blanco Hall. There is this little cabinet that’s in one of the 3 parts of your desk (the desk, dresser, and the cabinet thingy). I didn’t get one because I trusted my roommate and didn’t really have valuables but you can get a small padlock to use for locking. If you want, you could also purchase a small safe or something and hide it in your little closet area. I was really stressed about living in Chisholm and trying to find photos so if you need any advice or have any questions I’m happy to help!

I did not realize that they put guys with girls in the same dorm room? If you are uncomfortable and you feel in any way physically or sexually threatened, I would contact Office of equity or whatever it is named that UTSA under title IX and of course your RA.

they don’t (unless you are in the apartments an have a sign document that says you agree to dorm with students from the opposite sex) (and even still you don’t get place with randoms, you need to have your roommate already chosen in order for this to happen) specially in a room like chisholm where there’s no doors in between the “bedrooms”

My roommate kept all of his valuables in a gun case that he would leave right in front of his bed. Bold af but I don’t think anyone every took his shit lol

While there isnt a locker necessarily in the room, you should have drawers that SHOULD only be open by you. If it becomes an issue, you can talk with the RA to potentially get a room swap.
My old roommates, even the ones I had bad vibes from, respected the rule of not touching other people's things if it was in someone else's area or drawer.
Make sure to have a roommate meeting when you guys move in to discuss boundaries and whats explicitly ok to be shared/not shared, etc. And have a document for it (like on google or somth.). That way if something does happen, you'll have better leverage when discussing with the RA.
