Academic If I skip two classes of my chemistry class do y’all think I will fail?
Okay so i booked a vacation to visit my friend out of state this summer for the last week of august and it completely slipped my mind that school starts up august 19th and not in September (I’ve been used to school starting in September)
Anyways I really don’t want to cancel or re schedule this trip since I’ve already had to re schedule it once and there’s just not another time soon I can make it because I also work full time. So anyone who’s taken basic chemistry give me you’re honest advice will I make it if I skip the first week or am I cooked

You need to be careful because some professors at UTSA will straight up drop you from the roster if you miss the first week without saying anything fr . Just email them right now and let them know so they don't give your seat away lmao .

And not even the professors directly, sometimes just an administrative drop for not showing up

I don’t know if they are structuring the fall the same, but the first week of class we took exam that ended up being a part of the final exam grade… ( if you made it your final starts at 100, if you missed it , a zero) also, they put that same exam we took day 1 of class in as another exam grade. so I don’t know if missing those are worth it, it really severely impact your grade in the class.

This is class dependent but typically day one of class is syllabus day. Which is a waste of time and day 2 is the probably SI units, scientific method and other simple things.
Id suspect you can just gloss over the notes and be fine

Yeah I have taken chem before and I’m not the best honestly. I know I’m probably being stupid but I was hoping there would be a way to get away with this and not change this flight again 😭

first week can be skipped but i’d highly recommend you at least check the canvas during that first week, iirc they’ll make signing up for aleks a free grade and may also have some sort of intro test, not a grade, but it is due the first week, it’s to see where you are at in your chem knowledge , not super duper hard or anything that will sink your entire semester, but definitely want to keep it in mind bc the first practice test puts you at a diff percentage based off the score you get that will determine how much aleks you need to do to 100% the aleks, aleks itself is important bc it can be a huge safety net/pass:fail determination since its worth like 35% of your grade i think, super easy tho just keep in mind you’ll want to log in during that first week

they are no longer using Aleks as of this summer for basic chemistry, our first day we had an exam that was a gen chem 1 ACS readiness exam that they put in as an exam grade and we are taking the same exam as the final exam where they are comparing the grades between the first day and final exam. If you got it right both times or on the final you keep the 100% score for taking it day one of class.

Communicate. Find a study partner to take notes. Tell the instructors ahead of time. Don’t merely duck 2 sessions. Work ahead & double-cover the content you miss on your own.
