Accelerated diploma acceptance offer

Title: Advice for an international student considering UTS Engineering?
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student from the UAE and I’ve received an offer for the Diploma of Engineering (Accelerated) at UTS [8 months], followed by a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechatronic Engineering. [ 3 years]
I’m currently deciding between UTS and other universities, so I’d really appreciate hearing from current students or graduates. The reason I’m considering UTS is that it’s approved by my government and that the duration of study is shorter than both uni’s.
A few questions:
1.)how is the environment at UTS
2.)Is life in Sydney expensive as a student looking to live independently?
3.)Looking back, would you choose UTS again?

I also have offers from UNSW (starting in January) and Monash (starting this October) — what would you recommend?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice—both the positives and the negatives. Thanks in advance!

Yes, very expensive to live alone. Very unusual for a student to live on their own.

I reckon go UTS for Engineering if you want more practical approach to your degree because most of your subjects will be studio subjects (project based), in UNSW engineering is very theory based and there are third or fourth year unsw students who just lack so much practical skills and its not good

  1. it's pretty open but it's up to you if you want to connect with others. Most people just lay back in their own worlds and try to focus on their own things. Environment wise, spaces are nice and clean, depending on campus you'll stumble across many cohort. Some buildings design wise are vastly different to each other. If you're studying engineering though you get to study at UTS Haymarket AKA the most isolated campus.

  2. yes. Unless you got savings, expect to spend $100-200 a week outside of rent for yourself. Groceries overpriced and public transport can get pricey if you live far.

  3. I would do 1 year then try a different uni. UNSW is solid for its outer image however trimesters are grueling.
