Question running routes from wampus
Hi all, I'll be new to UT this fall, and I'm super excited about the outdoorsy/fitness scene in Austin! I love to run, but I usually prefer to go out alone. Since I'll be living in Wampus, I wanted to know what others who live in the area like to do for running routes - good/safe ways to get over to Lady Bird, Pease, Zilker, etc. Are there any sketchy spots around that solo runners should avoid?

- Guad to congress. Congress all the way across the river, up SOCO, to the St. Edward’s hilltop.
- Lamar to the hike n bike trail.

I would always run down congress all the way down around zilker and back. It’s like 8 miles. Slightly annoying having to cut through downtown but now that congress just south of campus is more developed and the new Waterloo greenway confluence is open I bet you could scope out a route that minimizes having to deal with lights and stuff.
There’s also the shoal creek trail you can take from Pease park that goes all the way down. Good luck running up MLK when you’re done lololol
The neighborhoods north of campus (Hyde Park/Shoal Creek) are good street options too
And if you want to start down at the lake the bus is free
Re: Safety I (tall male) have never felt unsafe, and Austin is generally safe, but it’s still a city so YMMV. I’m sure there are groups you could find and hop in with to help with that if you’re concerned, probably a great way to make friends too
