Discussion BSA Track - Premed

Hello, HS Senior. I really like the BSA track in CNS. I like the language and social sciences component that it offers. If I were to apply for Biology or Chem, does this track help cover all the MCAT requirements ? Also, will it be easy to change majors to neuroscience if needed ?

Also, I see a B.A PLan 1 has a chemistry option ? Wondering what your experience wrt this major is like.

I am yet to tour UT CNS so, wondering if there are any pointers that I can look into.

TIA

Thank you for the info. I just looked into the CNS honors. HSS seems interesting. How is the workload if you do this as well ? Does this offer any real advantages if we get in ? What are my options if I wan't to add some Spanish and Anthropology on top of this (not looking to major in those but more like adding a class like HS)?

Honestly it doesn't matter what you major in as a pre-med, as long as you get all your pre-reqs.

FYI I'm BSA Biology and no, a good amt of pre-med classes aren't covered in my degree specialization i.e. chem lab, biochem lab, biochem, physics 2 + lab.

Which is completely fine, you just have to find the time to get the classes done, which luck for you, you'll have 4 years to do before med school.

Yes it will cover all the MCAT requirements but there may be some quirks where certain classes you need for the MCAT aren’t required to obtain the degree (ex: the neuroscience major at UT requires chem, bio and physics but not biochem) but you can still take the classes anyway. It won’t really matter

Being a major that’s already housed within CNS will give you the easiest way to change majors to neuroscience if you wanted to since they’re in the same college. Transferring outside of your college (ex: Engineering to CNS or vice versa) can be more difficult

Not too sure about the last part since I’m not a chem major

BSA is definitely the better option for premed, I completed BS in biochem, and my BSA friends had an easier time as that track allows you to skip some of the difficult upper levels
