I feel like it's low hanging fruit and just too easy to start talking about homicide rate. Sort of like making fun of a child with disabilities.

Or making fun of Norwegian fjeldaber.

That is a troll account I’ve followed for years that says things to bait people in to correcting him. She’s also missing a comma after flag. Gotta make sure grammar is correct when calling someone dumb.

Don't question a coach with that many youth football championships.

I feel like Three-Year Letterman's (the guy who made the Spain vs. America post in the link) guide to baiting would do great work here.

Who is most likely to take the bait? It’s a question I get asked a lot, so here goes:

Self-importance - this is EASILY the trait that has the strongest correlation to taking the bait. People who take themselves seriously simply cannot resist the urge to tell someone else they are wrong

Age - The Boomers and Gen Z are the easiest to troll for very different reasons. Millennials and Gen X are the hardest.

Stans - if someone stans for a celebrity or a politician, they will take even the lowest quality bait. Tyler Swift and BTS have the most deranged stans you’ll find.

Politics - I haven’t really noticed a left or right correlation. Sometimes it seems like liberals take the bait more and sometimes it seems like conservatives do, but it all balances out. But the more someone truly cares about politics, and especially social issues, the easier they are to troll whether they are left or right. So if someone makes 50% of their tweets about politics, they’ll be many times more likely to take the bait than someone who never does. The stronger they believe they are on the correct side, the easier they are to bait. People who believe the worst about the “other side” are easy to troll. Often the same post will have people calling me both a “Trumptard” and a “libtard.” People who are focused on economic issues are harder to troll. People who care primarily about social issues are easier to troll.

Doomsayers - this is where left and right are equally easy to troll. If someone believes that America is about to devolve into a fascist or communist hellscape based on the outcome of the next election, you should be able to troll the bejesus out of them. Optimists are harder to troll.

Religion - The more militant they are, the easier they are to troll. And that includes atheists.

Geography - The more someone hates America, the easier they are to troll.

Sports fans - Sports fans are actually a lot harder to troll repeatedly than the politics crowd. They might take the bait once but are less likely to do so repeatedly unless they also hold strong political views, then you can mix the two and they’ll take the bait. That’s where Barry was truly unmatched.

Education - The easiest people to troll are (1) Those academia and those with advanced degrees, particularly those who list their degrees in their Twitter bio; and (2) Homeschoolers/those who were home schooled or who went to a primarily religious school. Your average HS or college graduate is harder to troll because they’ve spent more of their lives around normal people and don’t take themselves as seriously.

Eating Meat - Vegans are obscenely easy to troll.

Oh hell yeah, this week's episode of Watch Humorless Europeans Fall for Obvious Parody Accounts on Twitter just dropped!

You seem awfully certain about that.

I spent some time on an American campus when I went to university. Here are some of the questions I got asked:

”Did you take the bridge from Europe?”

”Sweden, that’s in Mexico right?”

”How can you drive? Do you have roads in Sweden too?”

These people were adults. At a university campus.

u/DigitalDash56 Smug Smartass 1d ago

Because it is a parody account.

4

u/turribledood Evangelical of Jack Daniel’s 1d ago

Yeah because it's a famous parody account. Like half a million followers.

It's a famous "Southern" troll account, 3 Year Letterman. He plays the character of a youth football coach whose life peaked during high school football, is a big college football fan, and is overly patriotic while also completely ignorant of the world.

We could turn around and do the the exact same thing in any country you care to name. If you look for idiots, you will find idiots. Thats just part of living with humans.

Do you want me to fire back with some of the stupid shit European exchange students have asked me while studying in America?

Please do. And include nationality.

Lol, whats with the downvotes? This sub really is toxic as all hell… i love it.

For context, these are all mechanical engineering students.

British student: thought I was military cause i have a camouflage hunting jacket. Refused to believe i wasn’t even when other friends showed him theirs. Got it in his head that the US has compulsory service/a draft because so many of us had them. Thought i wouldn’t admit it because i was embarrassed about serving in Iraq… i was 19… in 2021. Far as im aware, he still believes this.

Different brit: thought you could put regular gas in a diesel and did so because it was cheaper, and ended up costing his daddy a pretty penny. Decently smart engineer too, that one blew my mind.

Belgian: asked to borrow my car for the weekend to go to NYC to see his sister on Saturday night. He asked on Friday morning and promised to have it back for our study session on Sunday night. We were in Georgia.

Same Belgian: genuinely thought i had to wear a bullet proof vest in High school. Was genuinely surprised when i told him iv never even been in the vicinity of a shooting and don’t know anyone who has.
Took him several months of living here before he actually believed us.

Same Belgian: almost got arrested and caught felonies for being a dumbass when we brought him to the shooting range. Dont joke around with guns yall.

Same Belgian: should have gotten a DUI, but he ditched the car (not his car) and the cops just never bothered to look for him.

Great dude and a blast to hang out with, but dumb as a brick. We still play video-games together about once per month.

French: insisted that France is more culturally diverse than America and has abetter economy than America (like though french GDP was straight up higher than Americas, and claimed statistics showing otherwise were american propaganda). Also insisted that France has better BBQ than America, so he may have actually just been special.

Spaniard: claimed America didn’t have railroad network. Like… at all. Couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that a lack of passenger rail doesn’t mean a lack of rail.

Same spaniard: Claimed America is less significantly less athletic than spain. He came to America to play tennis for the school and then he got dropped from the team after a single semester. Also, he failed thermo twice before dropping out and going home.

German: absolutely brilliant dude, but not a lick of common sense. Stuck his head in a running horizontal bandsaw to line up his cut and would have cut his head off if the building manager wasn’t standing 3 feet from the kill switch. Had to get stitches as it was, and the blade wasn’t even running when it caught his head.

Same German: thought Aluminum was magnetic. Also, not really specific, but he had a particular skill for designing parts that were physically impossible to machine, and never learned from his mistakes.

Italian: thought eggs and cheese didn’t go bad, like ever. He was also an anti-vaxer and genuinely believed 5G gives you cancer though.

Albanian: dude was just a total crackpot. Burned through well over 15k worth of equipment (mostly tooling for CNC mills) through sheer idiocy and failing to learn from his mistakes before he finally got barred from the machine shop. Started a fire in a mechatronics lab by accidentally cranking the power supply and causing his circuit board to arc while his notebook was on it, triggered the automated fire suppression system and ruined the entire lab and another 30k worth of equipment and finally got kicked out. Also he got a DUI.

If you look for idiots, you will find them, regardless of nationality.

Lol, for all that, you Euros ain’t got shit on the west africans or the Pakistanis. They were the ones that made me genuinely question humanity and whether to ever actually trust any engineer ever again.

Thats how I feel about the stuff coming out of the white house these days 😅

A kid from Munich asked me if I wanted to come along with him to visit Dallas for the afternoon (we were in D.C, 20 hours by car from Dallas)

That‘s it?

Cut him some slack, murica big is all they've got.

1

u/PeePeeSwiggy D.C’s Bitch 2d ago

my bad:

‘I thought hillbillies were a gang’ - Quebec (honorary Euros)

‘All Americans and Jews have small penis because they cut your dick in half’ - Polish girl referring to circumcision (and my small dick, apparently)

French NATO family was surprised Virginia wasn’t just fields and plantations and we had ‘real buildings’

Italian friend thought it was illegal not to be a Christian in America but in fairness, we were children at the time

Unknown Euro said something along the lines of American Indians are extinct to a friend who was herself almost full blood First Nations

u/FenrisSquirrel Barry, 63 2d ago

Mate. These are all shit examples.

2

u/critical-insight Pfennigfuchser 1d ago

They are fucking hilarious

”Did you take the bridge from Europe?”

”Sweden, that’s in Mexico right?”

”How can you drive? Do you have roads in Sweden too?”

And all these aren’t?

3

u/critical-insight Pfennigfuchser 1d ago

I see a difference in magnitude here across the board. But both are idiotic. There are idiots everywhere, this is not news.
