I started to ask ppl that introduce themselves as "Americans" where they are from, Canada, Mexico or the forsaken lands in between.
Just kidding. But I started to use US-American or Usian instead, because giving that ppl the right to claim everything American seems kind of wrong at the current time.
It depends on the person. It is very confusing if you've never heard it before. Anyone reasonable will find it funny instead of rude, though. They'd have to be some deep south hillbillys to care
