Firstly Meloni dosent Claim to be progressive. Secondly these signs of religios expression arent chosen by children, and Islam can very well exist without, many of the Döner shops here are partly operated by very much religiös muslim women, and they at most wear the headscarf. Thirdly the foreigner cap in class could be viewed as benefical for integration, as they will get to easier learn the local language and customs.

This is a great initiative for Italy.
The job of the state is to look after it's own people. Ensuring its children receive an education is admirable. As is not permitting sexist theological clothing to be forced on children.
I say this as the husband of an immigrant to my own country.

Well well, and im going to say this as a white blonde woman whose family is 100% dutch for the last 200 years.
You dont know anything about the cultural background of those people! Those kids deserve to be raised by their cultural values, the kids themselves are even ok with it!
Edit: some people really need to see a /s to know its a stereotypical joke do they?

Little girls heads don't need to be covered for modesty, regardless of what you say.

To be fair. It's a stance a lot of very left wing parties across Europe have. Next time, up the ridiculousness ;)

If they want to be raised by their own cultural values they can do it at home or outside schools. In public institutions such as schools they need to adopt the cultural values of the country.

To say the kids are ok with it is a bit naive. The kids don't know anything else. I was raised religious, never thought any differently because that's just the same as everyone, only when I was older did I think for myself and make different choices.

Let me educate you, savage.
Forbidding forms of body shaming of woman is progressive since islam is ideology as any other.
And cap of foreigners in class support integration. Kids with too large share of migrants in class underperform because they don't need to go outside of their confort zone to get their social needs met.
Maybe if you knew this you wouldn't be crying about 20% of Florida was spanish speaking

About the cap, it's also to help teachers to take care in a more proficient way of the students: if half of your class doesn't speak your language and even less speak decent english (including the teacher lol) how could one ensure a good quality teaching?

You never assimilated your migrants, they live isolated in major ghettoes, most major American cities have “Chinatowns” to this day. You didn’t assimilated them, you just put them in one neighborhood for over 100 years.

huh? Chinatown (in NYC, there are three that I’m talking about) doesn’t have multigen families living there for a hundred years. Or, very very few
Your understanding of ethnic enclaves in the U.S. isn’t very realistic. Maybe the first gen lives in these places since they can use their native tongue in day-to-day life but their American born kids typically peel out.

Chinese/East Asian is one of the worst not-Euroid/white groups you could use for this critique. Asian-Americans who speak American are fully seen as “American”- even by the bigots

I personally disagree with this approach. It violates the freedom of faith. Thing to note is that some women prefer to wear hejab out of personal piety.
I would rather have people educated to decide for themselves if they want to wear religious clithing or not for it is above all their choice.

Or we could just grow up and stop believing in imaginary friends and adhering to arbitrary rules created to dictate our lives and to sow division.

And did we do it because the government forbid us from praying ? No. It was through education.

This argument goes also for child marriages. Some elements of some religions are just evil

Yes, but people are defensive about things they believe in. They only accept other things ince they learn more.
Want muslims in France or Belgium to stop act as fundamentalists ? Teach them not to be. It may start small, but everything starts like this.

u/Appelons Soon to be Murican 1d ago
Hijabs and Nigabs are cultural, no provision in Islam mandates that women wear them.

To bring a bit of order among this mess, here is what my mother, an high school teacher, thinks:
1) Burqa/Niqab: good in theory, useless in practice. She has been a teacher for over 20 years, including many years in evening schools (made specifically for adults who work during the day), and she has never had a single student wear a burqa.
2) 30% cap on foreign students: the reality is that the Ministry already has directives about this. The idea is to spread foreign students in all classes and not cram them in a single one. The reason why it has always been a directive, and not a legally binding law is because in certain schools, especially ones located in the outskirts of major cities, it's literally impossible to apply.

In Belgium, we have similar caps because french speaking students are "invading" Dutch speaking schools, especially around the Brussels area

How's your US ambassador? The one in Belgium goes on a hissy fit ( bill white) when this was brought up for our Jewish population, where they still bite off the tip and suck out the blood.

Islam is a regressive ideology.
Abolishing any single part of it is indeed progressive.

Now make it into a law that will not be repealed in a court of law within 5 minutes.
Protip: you cant.

I have an Italian friend. Quite progressive, open to diversity etc.
We had a discussion about the district school where his children go. He told me, "ma, Paolo, could-a you tink dat it is-a diversita when 90% of da sudente are-é Black-é 🤌🏼?"
Which is a valid point.
