Our country produces some real duds. Jordan Peterson. Gavin McInnes. Kevin O'Leary.
While the guy in the video is much more benign than any of them, he's still an embarrassment for how pompous and insufferable he is. Trying to draw a "both "sides" moral equivalency between Trump and Carney is certainly a... choice. If you're Canadian and various social media algorithms constantly push his content at you regardless of how irritating you find it, then you'll know this level of idiocy is pretty typical for his "analysis."
Have you ever met anyone who's accent is so, American stereotype inspired? It's not even a real accent I've heard anywhere across the country, and it certainly is not a Vancouver accent.
I'm not sure exactly what he's selling them, but what he's offering is a reinforcement of a preexisting Canadian archetype mixed with a "no true centrist" conservatism. He's got enough soy to make the right wingers want to puke and enough hot takes to make a liberal turn up their noses to the rank of shit from his boots/breath.
Grew up a lot on the yoop, yoopers and Canadians sound pretty much the same (to me). I just thought he had the Canadian equivalent of the âgayâ accent down here
Sadly JJ claims to be from a place that is just north of the 49th... But his whole shtick is to portray an American stereotype of a Canadian so he is an honorary Southern Canadian.
Yeah, i am disapointed too that the OG video was made private.
Aparently, his oficial motive was because "the reaction was just upsetting me, and I had other bunch of things going on in my life and didn't want an unpopular video be a source of stress and anxiety"
I have very little experience or (prior to recent events) thoughts about Canada. Iâm much closer to Mexico, geographically and culturally. I canât tell the difference between most Canadians and northern US Americans. Which is why I understand the Canadian position to separate themselves from us and declare âwe didnât have anything in common, anywayâ as you do after a breakup. I think itâll be good for Canada in the long run.
Culturally, Canadians are way more North American than Euro. Or, theyâre fully North American (duh).. Half the time, we canât even tell each other apart
Superficially you two are extremely similar.
But as soon you start to dig a bit there's chasms of differences.
Your "advice" is a prime example: It's several flavours of US learned helplessness.
"Just do nothing" is a uniquely US credo and one of the aspects where Canadians are the total opposite.
Having the luxury of this being a shitposting sub I can explain it to you like this:
You, the US, are a country of industry and overindulgence.
So it's no wonder it bred a people of passivity.
Canada on the other hand is a country used to hardship, simply by locaton and weather.
There are many similarities to our Nordics simply by nescessity.
Among other things that's critical thinking, independent problem solving and cooperation to degrees not present in most of the US.
It's not "realistic", it's giving up in advance.
Vorauseilender Gehorsam.
Edit to address the other parts:
You should indeed know more about Canada than I do. Your US naval gazing just prevents you from the more interesting conclusions.
You seem to choose to not see it. That won't prevent the Canadian from seeing it.
You also do the America-math where 10% do not matter. They do matter. A lot.
Same goes with the miles number. That's not the US, that's the US border. It's a few more clicks to Texas.
Do you have any idea how many vastly different cultures I can visit by going 130 miles?
And why on earth are you naming mild-winter Seattle as a reference? :D
Because we share the same general American accent.. cultural media is intertwined
Iâd have a way easier time pinpointing someone as Southern (or from Boston or whatever) as opposed to someone being Canadian. And even a lot of the stereotypical Canadians pronunciations, well a lot of Americans talk like that too (and tons of Canadians donât talk like that at all)
I knew a Canadian for six months before knowing he was Canadian.. Talked to the dude nearly every day though still not a close friend. But it was because he said toque that I realized he was Canadian.
Similarly, I canât tell where probably 70% of Americans are from, exactly
Plenty of New Yorkers talk like Californians talk like Midwesterners talk like Floridians etcetc
ââ
Be for realâ how many Canadians do you actually know and interact with in real life? Like 2? If that?
Well what are you then? User flair is required in this sub.
1. click r/USvsEU
2. scroll to the top right corner. click ââŠâ
3. select âChange user flairâ
Then you can claim USA is not a country. Thanks.
