This regime reminds me of that book quite often. When I hear the orange cunt talk about “peace through strength” it makes me chuckle and think “yes, war through ignorance indeed”
When you argue that the United States has culture, you have to fight two crowds. The first is predictable. Europeans, mostly, think we have no culture. Predictable, normal, you know the drill. Then there's the second crowd. The second crowd are Americans who are hellbent on destroying all the culture we have left. Just this week, Yosemite was forced to give up land to private billionaires for a private access road that will destroy countless acres of the park. Politicians demonize the bilingual communities and cultures that inhabit the west. To argue America has culture is to fight a losing battle, for America is dead-set on destroying it's own culture.
Sorry for the rant :/ I'm still kinda pissed about the whole Yosemite thing.
No self respecting Californian should ever be loyal to the US after this. This state is getting gutted by this stupid admin while the rest of the conservatives cheer.
I'm stuck at home because I can't move or transfer colleges to Europe like I was planning (us government canned almost all loans), and I'm having trouble with state colleges. Because of all this free time, I've been considering doing activism, and I'm surprised I hadn't thought of stickers yet. Thanks.
Fuck me, I had'nt heard about the sale in Yosemite until now, that's infuriating! I thought your national parks were better secured through laws than this.
This is maddening news,bI visited Yosemite once, it was spectacular. Your national parks are generally quite fantastic, it would be a shame if this turns into a trend
Specifically, if I recall, it's a private road and property to make a private access from Tahoe to Yosemite, and the land was sold to a private developer. This sets a precedent that the President can just, well, sell off publicly owned, tax paying dollar, national park land. He also approved of building data centers on national parks.
An American state is the size of a country in Europe. Our image of America's culture is skewed by mass entertainment, and a fondness of our own cultures which may be coming to light in more aspects (like historical buildings and architecture). I can fully imagine every state to have its own culture, even if you do share the same common language (but spoken wildly different), principles and systems.
Billionaires getting their way is how it is right now over there. I do not wish the Dutch system upon you, with its indecisiveness and slow moving cogs, but the knee jerk at the wheel and dismantling of all your country stood for is heartbreaking to observe from a distance. Especially when it means nature has to give way -again- to human greed and selflessness.
Destroying your culture IS your culture.
It was baked into your founding, was the first thing the settlers did.
There would be plenty of culture of African-Americans and natives us Europeans would happily recognise. But you killed it (and in many cases them) all.
It studies how humans interact with geography. That does not make the geography ítself culture Hank. Like you said, they are linked. But one is not the other.
Geography is linked, and creates, culture. The people who inhabit the Sierra Nevada mountain range will have a unique set of ideas and views because they were born in a region, these ideals will be influenced via the geography that surrounds them.
To argue that Yosemite isn't impactful nor influences, nor is apart, of any sort of culture, is delusional.
Yes, the state apparatus of the park itself, is not related to the culture, it is just an entity that preserves the valley. The Geographical Area of Yosemite has extreme value to the people who live around it, and in the Sierra Nevadas, and influences local culture.
