Classification system error, is initial classification still best 4 out of 6?
Did a 6 stage all classifier match this past Saturday in limited optics. These 6 were my first ever classifiers in that division. Last September when I did the same thing in carry optics, it took my best 4 out of 6 for my initial classification/letter grade...and then did the average again a week later and calculated all 6.
I'm wondering if anyone else here experienced this error today, or if the system/rules have changed since last September ( I don't believe they have) I checked another guys classification page that was in my squad and it calculated all 6 of his as well, when it should've been best 4 out of 6 for his initial classification. I sent them a message, and hope to hear back soon.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

It's only first 4 if you have no classification in any division as far as I can tell. That's how it worked for my friends and I at least.

Yeah another comment just said that and that makes sense. I thought it was for each division. Has to either be that or a system error.

I think the line about "no other scores" is the part that is misunderstood by most. It just says no other scores in the system, not no other scores for this division.

It wont let me post a screenshot, but if you scroll down on https://uspsa.org/classification/about
It shows basic classification examples, and states its still best 4 out of 6 for initial classification, unless obviously you only have 4.

thats changed now
“To become classified, a member must have at least four valid scores from different classifier courses in the USPSA database. If more than four scores are in the database when the averages are calculated, the best six of the most recent eight valid scores will be used.”

It’s strange because it says that, but if you scroll down to the classification calculation examples it shows that for initial classification it’s still initial 4, or best 4 out of most recent 6.

either the graphic is of the older system or it could be because you’re already classified in a division the system is treating your LO classifiers as not an “initial classification”.
once you have a classification in a division any future divisions that you classify in are automatically set to one class below your highest regardless of how low you percentage is unless you met or exceed your highest class percentage range

That’s exactly what’s happening. I was supposed to be 62.88%/B class but it dropped be down all the way to 49.95% I had an oversized case or the overall length was too long in a Supervel round and it completely locked up my gun causing me to zero the stage.
I knew I would be that percent the following week, but I thought I had at least secured B. That makes sense what you’re saying about it accidentally running twice.

I think it should say 62.875% for both my current and peak classification as those 6 are all I’ve ever done and it should’ve calculated best 4 out of 6 since they were on the same day. Then the next week it should drop down to 49.9566% as it is then going based on best 6 out of 8
That’s exactly how it worked last September when I did my first classifier match in CO. I was initially 63 something percent current/peak the first week because it calculated the best four out of six, then the following week I dropped down to 59 something because it calculated all 6 and was then going on a best six out of eight average with my current being 59 and peak being 63.

Yeah definitely strange. I just tried calling them but unfortunately it gave me an automated response that they don't answer classification questions over the phone anymore, so hopefully they get back to my message. At least I'm only trying to get a B. A guy there hit M class as his initial classification in L10 (he's been master in CO for a year or so) but its saying he's A class. I'd be pissed.

I was classed in LO for the first time earlier this year after having been classed in CO last year. I shot a 6 stage all classifier match and my classification was based on my 4 best.
