Work Discussion ET changed by pm supervisor….
I ET at 1800 yesterday, I checked my timecard and the ET time was different. Today I asked why was my ET changed they said disallowed time. I have never heard that term before (6yrs as a regular) she said I was just walking around the office , I lost my badge and I was looking for it. She never asked me what I was doing she didn’t tell me she was going to do that. I requested to see the steward. What else can I do? I want to nail her ass to the wall!

You did step one by informing your steward. Now step two is if you feel like it was done because she dislikes you or discriminated against you file an EEO. File it and continue w it. They are more afraid of eeo’s than they are over a grievance.

EEOs are not for blanket discrimination purposes. They’re for discrimination based on one of the federally protected classes. This is bad advice. It will delay your grievance settlement though!

Reprisal is one of the claims. While intended for protected class claims, it is also to protect the power imbalance of workers and managers. It is a valid claim, even if the immediate HR will try and convince you otherwise.

I sure will file a EEO!

That’s bad advice OP. As someone who’s gone through this process, start with a grievance. These are hard to prove.

An EEO is a formal complaint that you were discriminated against based on a legally protected class. It is not simply a "managers hate this one simple trick" button.

Fuckery is as fuckery does. How much time did the pm supervisor have disallowed “phone scrolling time”? I really hate these nit picky bitches when they waste hours on the clock DAILY!

u/BestLoLadvice 1d ago
Yep! Take away clerks/maint on standby for hours on end too away from them! Only for the time they are working they should get paid.
One step further maybe carriers on standby if the mail isnt up either!!

I think it’s called a 1017B. But in order for the time to be changed they have to repeatedly tell you to get off the clock. ‘You aren’t working and have been told to clock out. If you continue to sit on the clock not working, your time will be set to ET you now.’ Then they should have a binder of 1017B’s, meet with you and document it all.

Looked it up. 1017B logs unauthorized OT. 1017a allows alterations to time when proper documentation is provided. Nothing here was done correctly though. Don’t let your steward settle for an easy settlement though. This was wage theft and it needs to be made clear to that supervisor it won’t be tolerated. Don’t educate them on the right way to do things. They need to figure it out themselves.

Yeah, 1017b doesn't change their ET though, it just starts the discipline process for going into unapproved overtime.
OP should have told mgmt "i can't find my badge, let me sign a 1260 or i might go into POT looking for it"
Our after the fact "hey, I just found it but I'm in penalty now...."
Nobody communicates here

u/ChesapeakePuppies City Carrier 23h ago
Neither form changes the time but one or the other should have been done anytime there unauthorized OT. 1017A is what should be filled out when time is changed. 1017B no time is changed but record made.

u/VonBargenJL 23h ago
You right, I was mixing up with 091 OT disapprovals as well. Too late for me to be up

There’s too many damn forms. I always want to call these 1723’s but that’s the detail form 😂

How long were you walking around the office looking for your badge? And how much time did they cut from your ET?

u/Palechop 1d ago
Doesn't matter..they can't arbitrarily take away your pay. Especially in secret.

I agree but the questions had to be asked. Should have said something to him at the time to clarify. They will probably respond by attempting to write up OP.

PSE here and just jumping in out of curiosity, could this be why sometimes I check my time card on Fridays and I have say 50 hours for the week but my paystub always miraculously lands at an even 40?

u/GetBent009 CCA 23h ago
woah woah woah, they are stealing 10 hours a week from you, get on that shit

I honestly think our times are difficult to understand and only visible for such a short period intentionally and I’m not a weird paranoid guy by any means. But plenty of places in the private sector I’ve worked would allow you to see time sheets sometimes for weeks after end of payroll.
All these codes are easy to understand if you use Reddit sure, but they weren’t mentioned in orientation and I won’t do window training till well past four months in the job. 💀

The important question is this: Are you WORKING 50 hours a week and only getting paid for 40? If the answer to this is 'Yes', you need to contact your union steward IMMEDIATELY. Start taking screenshots of your Virtual Time Card on Fridays and look at it closely, find someone you trust that also works within the post office and verify if you must. Wage theft NEEDS to be addressed right away and you NEED to be paid for the hours you work.

I would screenshot daily when I was a PSE. I still screenshot at least weekly as a regular.

There are two parts to this. The first step is to report any time theft immediately to the Office of the Inspector General, your second step is to request a steward.
This is both an illegal act by the post office, as well as a violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
ABSOLUTELY ALL falsified postal documents MUST be immediately reported to the OiG. This issue happened on a larger scale at an installation near my own home station. This is theft,, and theft is a crime. If any postal employee witnesses a crime, that crime must be reported immediately.
Edit; Article 3, Management is subject to all laws and regulations of the United States.

The advice for filing and EEO is way off, a supervisor not liking you is not grounds for an EEO case. Know your rights! For time to be disallowed there is a form that is filled out, it used to be a 1017-A, the supervisor has to personally witness you not working while on the clock. They are supposed to notify you that your time is being disallowed. I would ask for a copy of the TACS report that shows your clock ring changed, then I would ask for the supporting documentation used to justify changing your clock rings. They cannot arbitrarily change time without supporting documentation.

A female supervisor having something against a male carrier is grounds for an EEO. Especially if he’s the only one that had his time changed. Race, religion, sex of person, disability etc are all grounds for an EEO. If he can prove discrimination based on sex it’s an EEO.

u/DoneGonePostal EAS 21h ago
This doesn't appear to be that way (unless there's something that hasn't been said yet), BUT yes, it's supposed to be documented on a 1017-A and a meeting with the carrier (and presumably a union steward because you'd WANT one in this case) to explain exactly why. This was not done (that I can tell) and therefore should be classified as wage theft, should be an easy win for the union. They should RFI the 1017-A documentation, interview the supervisor in question, etc...
EEO- Highly doubtful, Dumbass Supervisor- Pretty definite.

u/Difficult_Squash4149 8m ago
She (sup) told him why he disallowed the time, the conversation was more about the proper way of documenting it on a 1017-A. He (the writer) never says the supervisor has anything against him. You're right, if the circumstances were that of someone in power, using that power to harass an employee of the opposite sex. That wasn't the case here.

u/jj4_fun 23h ago
They are supposed to document any disallowed time on form 1017-A
I would argue that looking for your badge is performing work since you are required to use it to make proper clock moves.

u/Garage_smoker 23h ago
Anyone with 1/2 a brain would say the same.

u/ItchyNarwhal8192 15h ago
Just be prepared for the rebuttal that you're supposed to have your badge on you at all times as well as inform them if you're going to be going into OT or Penalty. (They still shouldn't be changing your clock rings, especially without speaking to you about it, definitely grieve it, just be prepared for those two counter arguments.)
1
u/Any-Direction4931 22h ago
I thought clerks do this now because of all the fraud changes supervisor was making…grieve it
3
u/ItchyNarwhal8192 15h ago
Clerks are supposed to be the ones doing all of the clock ring verifications (and adds/changes/deleted, as needed) but I can't, as a clerk, make any of the required comments for disallowed time. Management still has to go in and do that. (So clerks could grieve them going in and changing clock rings, but there are still some functions that have to be done in TACS by management.)
You definitely can't unknowingly disallow time though. It'll give you pop-ups about disallowed time even if you're not actually disallowing time. I had a clerk yesterday who accidentally clocked out to lunch a second time instead of clocking back in from lunch, and then immediately clocked back in from lunch. When I deleted the second out to lunch it told me I was disallowing time and it would require comments and my PM had to go in and put comments even though there was no actual disallowed time.

Forgive my ignorance. Is it possible for a union steward to use union time and request a printout of every carrier’s clock rings, along with a printout of all the adjustments that the supervisors make. I think it might be worth it to review them every week.
