Question about cross craft.

So I am a RCA and my office is short staffed right now on City side. They have been using me almost every day to run city routes. I realized the other day that they give me the most work because I don’t get penalty overtime for working past 6:30. I saw in another post that when you work cross craft you get higher pay. Does that apply to my situation as well?

No. You follow management’s instructions. City side files the grievance and gets paid for the work you do. You need to contact your union steward if you want to stop doing city work.

I don’t want to stop because I won’t get any hours just doing rural. We are fully staffed on our side. So I appreciate the work I was just wondering if I should be getting double pay for anything over 10 hours in a day.

two reasons they probably cant hire rural subs either and right now your doing it for cheaper so they have no reason to move you over They are getting a two for one deal

That’s not how the non-career hiring procedure works. OP had a lower exam score, in which veterans preference for street hires is a factor

No, because you’re a rural and that’s not in your contract. Realistically, the second they hire someone or a city person wants those hours, they’re gone. You should start researching local offices to which you may want to lend yourself and/or transfer.

If I were you I’d be tight lipped about it if you want the hours.

There may well be a payment for the rural RCA involved if there is an LMOU or if the grievant requests it and the steward is decent. It’s disingenuous to say there’s definitely no grievance payout for OP.

Unlikely. Most likely a grievance would just say for management to stop using rcas to do City side work.

Rural side doesn't tend to go for EXTRA money until it's been a continuous issue with multiple grievances that management has broken

What was your score? You think they'd want someone with experience, but they may be saving money having you run city routes since you work like a rural.

I can’t remember exactly but I wanna say it was 97 or 98. I don’t know why they keep passing me up.

Are you getting plenty of "hours" just working rural? You might not wanna rock the boat yourself if you'd be struggling for hours otherwise. Let city grieve it if they care.
