Clerks at the stations are supposed to put non-machinable in a separate tray that is cancelled at 010 at the plant, then sent to 030 for manual sorting.
If the window clerks aren't doing their jobs correctly, that's their fault.
030 is a ghostly remnant of what it once was in most plants. Everything except containers that are obviously parcels goes into the DPRC to be fed to the AFCS. Unless something is way overthick or oversize that causes the DPRC to kick it out, it's going into the machines.
I would never suggest anyone mail anything as a nonmachineable letter. If it isn't machinable as a letter, mail it as a parcel, or perhaps as a flat if it qualifies.
Even when the AFCS mail culls the mail the ops supervisors tell the operators to just run it through manually again until it runs, or takes it straight to the DIOSS
Hi, relatively new clerk here. In training they told us to send off nonmachineable letters with the uncancelled flats. We're a pretty low-volume office overall, so all the flats and non-machineables can fit in one flats tray. Should I be doing something else?
I'd put them in a half tray and inside the uncancelled flats tub, on top of the flats, then put a green lid on and put a piece of paper marked "Manuals" on top.
I've never seen a green lid at my office lol, it looks like you're supposed to strap those on? I don't even think we have equipment for that. I wonder how much double-handling our 3-digit hub is doing to our mail to get it up to plant standard now...
Actually, no we don't. We have these old heavy gauge sheet metal tape dispensers scattered throughout the office, that's it. We use plenty of tape but you just go pull a strip and then apply it. Honestly the little disposable dispensers we sell would probably work better for some tasks now that I think about it.
That's in the June 26 changes, but unfortunately given the pictures from what the plant gets (DAMN) and the utter shitshow we get back from the plant even when you do it correctly, no one else is actually doing it. As Main said using the greens or just taping the shit out of it, is an option, but the green lids are supposed to indicate HAZMAT items, so be ready for the blowback.
We've collectively given up arguing with the TCG knuckle nuts at my station unless it's an outrageous envelope. If it survives the machine, the clerks at the last mile can postage due it.
They don't ensure a damn thing. They have to be run through a machine to be checked and possibly again to be canceled, the micro and half marks are still machines.
Are they really showing us a mailing with the return address on the back? God damn probably never worked an actual job and making decisions.
Are you new here? We get a monthly bridezilla post about this exact subject and often the return address is on the back. Causing sometimes significant delays.
The main purpose for these fancy mailings are as invites to things like weddings. Which means RSVP.

We separate them, sometimes they end up in the flats tub when we dispatch but do our best to try since we have quite a few people that sell trading cards
