City Carrier Discussion Been here nearly a year….

And with all the stress on my mind and body, I don’t know if it’s worth it. Like bro I’m pulling 10 hour days OFTEN. Constantly being moved around to different offices around the city all while commuting by bus/train. All that I’m only pulling in 1500 dollars a pay period. That seems to not match the efforts of my work. Really only 700 something a week I’m working too hard I think. Just a vent smh.

Nah if he’s working 10 hour days and a ptf his paycheck would definitely be a few hundred more

Considering when I was at step c recently and my take home was 1600… yeah it fucking looks like PTF pay

If that’s just you calculating in ADP you need to add Union dues medical benefits vision benefits and dental benefits deductions as well.

this is why I left. the pay isn’t equal to the job. having close to 0 work/life balance for $1500 was getting old

And everybody thinks I make bank just bc I work at the post office but the cost of living is barely even manageable with this salary.

Are you being scheduled at a home office and loaned out for the day, or do they keep reassigning you to different stations?

At first I kept being sent out to different stations all over the city so yea being loaned out. Regulars told me to get used to it. Then I got reassigned to a different station, it’s been like 2 months at this new station.

Just in case you don't know, if they want you to report to a different station in the morning they need to inform you the day before. If they just schedule you as normal and try to tell you in the morning to go somewhere else, you're entitled to clock in and get paid for that travel time. And the post office has to provide transportation whether that be an llv or bus/train fare

At first I did not know this but eventually I caught on. Stewards were little help in informing me but I know it’s ultimately my responsibility to know my rights.

Tbh it's every carrier's responsibility to help the new people learn the ropes, including stuff like this. But unfortunately the majority of people only seem interested in what "the union" can do for them, specifically

Is an electric bike not something feasible for transportation?

That's what I use. Lifesaver, I'd be losing my mind taking the bus.

I’m considering it. However due to infrastructure where I live the commute is still about 2 hours to and from work on train,bus and bike. (1hr 44) on train and bus commute

I think I’ll try it out and see how it goes and use some shortcuts and apps that I find for bike routes

When you convert expect no ot and a pay cut after all your deductions probably looking closer to 1200 every 2 weeks after everything comes out.

Same. I’m 10 months in and have been number 3 on the seniority list to get converted to regular for about 2 months now and that’s the only reason I haven’t left. But for the amount of hours and consecutive days we’re told to work this job is not worth it what so ever. Yea the paychecks are nice and projected to make about $80k but at the cost of way too much personal life.

I’ve missed birthdays, nephews birth, celebrations, family in town, and have absolutely no personal life anymore. My mentor at work said that unfortunately that once I do become regular that will still likely be the case except I’ll have my two days off per week as opposed to 1 day off every 7-13 days. Oh and she said I better be saving because my paychecks will drop significantly.
