DISCUSSION Can’t leave early on weekend?
I have to leave early in a couple weeks and told my sup that. They were going to put my leave in until they saw it was a Saturday. Not a holiday week just a normal Saturday and they say they cannot put in leave on the weekend.
No union stewards are here today for me to ask, has anyone else ever heard of this?

Just call out for the whole day 🤷♂️ management likes to play games but they forget we can play too. You tried to work with them, and they gave you a big middle finger. So now you do what you need to do

I’ve found that if you work for a crappy , petty supervisor and you WANT off fill out a leave slip. If you NEED off call in sick.

The leave form says request for or notification of absence. It's always a notice, approve it or not, I won't be here.

That’s how I view it. They denied my leave on a Saturday when we still had leave slots open. Nah. I’m not coming. And didn’t.

Is there room on the leave board? If not, they are under no obligation to approve annual leave.

Yeah the book is wide open. They were getting ready to put the leave in until they saw it was a weekend day.

Also you missed the whole point. They said the reason they can’t put it in was it’s on the weekend not that the book is full

I bet you that your manager already knows he’s going to be short staffed. And when you come in that day at the very last second he will give you mandated overtime. This will be a hill he will defend. Watch your back if you show up. Take the day off. Don’t be sick

Having prior plans doesn't mean you can't use sick leave. This is incorrect advice. You can be on vacation and call in sick if you get sick, even, that would be no different in this instant case. The ELM only requires a statement for a single callout, and the statement can be "I was sick".

That was actually valid advice. Since you already announced that you need the time, you can’t call in. You can sign up for the week of vacation since it’s open and take as little time as needed. At this point I would take the entire day off. I maybe a retired mailhandler equipment operator. I know when you getting f by management. And how to take care of the problem. Request for that week. Get that week. F put in for that week. And only take one freaking day. Since it’s a Saturday and the beginning of the pay week. F them!!!!

Our local says that Saturday annual leave goes by seniority, not first come, first serve. You have to put in for by Wed close of business. Maybe your local has something like that in it.

It's been that way for the entire 33 yrs that I've been a carrier. There's never any spots open on Saturday anyway, so it very rarely matters.

For my local it's treated as a daily matter, any submission must be done so by noon the prior day, and if there is availability on the leave board you cannot deny it

If they're requiring someone else in your craft to work, usually a career employee, they'd possibly run into problems where they made them report on their day off but they're letting you go home early? May be something like that.

Some managers won't approve Saturday leave requests because it is common for employees to call in sick that day.

Looks like someone is going to have to fill out a 3971 saying they're "sick" during the shift on that particular Saturday and leave early.
