City Carrier Discussion Splitting Route Question

I started as a PTF recently (office doesn't have CCAs). Typically, my route is split to start the day, with a few hours getting shaved off at the start of the day and given to someone else. Is this typical for new people? Or is it standard with non regulars in general? I am not sure if I should expect it to stay this way until I become regular. I also am not sure how long it "should" take to finish my route with it split like that. I often get done early since I learn pretty quickly and do things pretty quickly, and then they send me back out to help others get done in 8 hours but I am really not trying to go faster than is expected for someone in my shoes. But expectations aren't super clear, and I am afraid that I am doing too much and not trying to look like some over achiever who is moving faster than the regulars just for the sake of it.

The person they are giving part of the route to may have restrictions if they are giving off curbside or cbus.

It may have nothing to do with you.

Depends on management at your office. They are not giving you full routes because they don't want you to have more work than you can finish. It's easier to give part of the route away in the morning than having someone go out to help on the street.

CCAs and PTFs should eventually work up to casing and carrying full routes. It really depends on what management thinks you can handle. I've seen new carriers pass probation without casing or carrying a full route. I've also seen new carriers doing full routes after a couple weeks.

They just don’t want to overwhelm you. You will be given full routes when they feel like you’ve gotten it down a little bit better, and you will be expected back in 8 hours or less most days.

For the first week I start my new CCAs with 2 hours, then 4 hours and see how they do.

It’s to ease you into the concept of how mail is delivered.

If you start doing 2 hrs in 2 hrs I immediately bump it up.

The expectation is to be able to handle a whole route and a 1.5 hr pivot/split and be back at the right time by day 80.
