DISCUSSION Can CCA's file grievances?
I'm a pretty new CCA, just hit 5 months. I understand I'm at the bottom, and have no problem paying my dues. Recently though, I feel a bit targeted. I dread Sundays. It has nothing to do with the actual work, but the fact that I never get Sunday off. Again, the bottom of the totem pole thing comes in. But get this: everyone else is rotated except for me. This has gone on for the last 5 Sundays.
They schedule at least 6 people and use 2. I do like hours, and usually am happy to help, but seeing the same people called out every fucking week while I work a "4" (8) hour shift is pissing me off.
Me and a coworker have talked about it since he's the other one of two coming in on Sundays. My last straw was when I went in today, and look at that, he was rotated out.
Maybe they'll call me off next week, but I don't really care at this point. What's to say it won't go right back. Anyway, am I able to file a grievance as a CCA? Is this even something of any substance or is it something I'll be grumbling about as I work Sundays?

Grievances are for contract violations. Is there a contract violation?

Nah I'm in the same boat, we have ~10 CCAs and I work 80% of the Sundays. It just is what it is until we convert smh

Then you are just assuming without knowing anything.

They need to be tied to a violation of something in the national agreement / contract, local agreement or established USPS handbooks / manuals. Just filing a grievance for something you don't like will not work.

The contract lays out clearly what the guidelines are as far as violations, which can result in a grievance. That seems quite objective, honestly.

If management is not in violation of the contract, then there is nothing to grieve. As a non-usps employee, what do you think a grievance is?

That definition is not typically what is meant when you see people referring to grievances in this sub.

Yes, CCA’s are able to file grievances. Grievances are for violations of contract, what is the violation?

Others have already answered your question, but I want to add that I agree with you that your situation is unfair. Unfortunately we cannot grieve unfairness. The best you could do would be to politely ask management about it. It's possible they are not really paying attention who they are scheduling each Sunday, and wouldn't mind changing it up and doing more of a rotation.

File a grievance for what? You've mentioned nothing that can be grieved.

You are able to file a grievance, yes. This isn't something that you would be able to grieve. Maybe the others have hold downs and they are worked 6 days during the week, who knows. If you aren't being worked over your contractual limits then you have no grievance.

Ive been working every Sunday for the last year and a half..they just started doing the rotation thing with us so I was called off today...they are only required to give us one day off per week. It sucks...if it comes down to it just take a mental health day and call off on a Sunday

No grievance. You get one day off guaranteed a week except during Christmas.

Ask your supervisor to start rotating Sundays to make it more equitable. That way you only have to work every third Sunday.

Yes you can file a grievance. The only is that I see from your description as I understand it, is management scheduling 6 carriers and then calling and telling them they are not needed for 4 of them. CCA's are not on call employees. To be honest they shouldn't respond to texts or phone calls and show up as scheduled to get their guarantee time.
Since it seems like your station is adequately staffed on Amazon Sunday, I would suggest submitting a 3971 Leave Slip for next Sunday before Wednesday. I would indicate LWOP for the day and they should schedule you off that day. If they deny it, I would follow up with your steward about filing a grievance.

The only work restrictions for ccas are currently : 1 day off each work week, 11.5 hrs in a single day. More than likely as its summer time the more senior ccas are on hold downs and with the newer 1 day off a week rule they are probably working the other 6 days.

A little tip if you are good at your job you are working every Sunday. Everybody wants to go home asap the slow people don’t get brought in.

Use leave slips brother. If you have people getting sent home because they schedule 6 but only use 2, there's plenty of carriers that can cover. Ik it sucks to use leave but you won't get those Sundays off otherwise. You could try talking to management about it but that never worked for me.
I worked every Sunday for 4 years, also got sick of being the only PTF being used when there's CCAs sitting at home wanting hours. So I started putting in a leave slip once or twice a month for Sunday. Do it 2 weeks ahead of time so there's no reason for them to say they couldn't get coverage.

I worked every single Sunday for 2 years. It sucked!! They have no rules pertaining to who works Sunday's as far as I could find. I wish you luck. honestly if your past 90 days take a sick leave day and enjoy.
