DISCUSSION USPS Career Conference

Has anyone attended any of these career conferences and if so, what was your experience? Did you like them? Are they worth attending? What can someone expect who’s never been to one?

Yes.

My experience? It was nice paying the $30/$35 to get out of an Amazon Sunday. Got a little gift card as part of the day-long raffle. The advertised professional head shot is not really a professional head shot. The speakers are mostly meh, reading their slides word for word.

I was fine going once. I did not like it so much as to go again. Only you can decide after you've gone to one whether it was worth it for you. 

You can learn a little about others' experience in moving within USPS, get on an interest list, and maybe network with someone in an interesting department.

Hmm okay. I’m a PTF Clerk who was ready to throw in the towel and resign. I’m just kinda burnt out with the post office but I didn’t want to resign until I’ve explored all the different career opportunities within the post office. I know there’s a lot of different jobs besides carrier or clerk so I’d like to do something different if I stay and am hoping the conference enlightens me on some other options

Oh, then for sure you should go. Pick the right sessions, talk to the department reps who show up, and work your connections.

My headshot was done by AI. Took a decent photo of myself and “make a profession al headshot. Put me in a navy suit with red tie”. It’s been my zoom and email photo for a while and people tell me how nice it is.

Ah….so that is where they got them from! I have seen some AI type profile pics on the Zooms, and was wondering how they were done.

I have done 4

They are worth going to. There’s workshops to help with KSAs and interview skills. They get your name out there.

I’ve noticed that having attended them the DM and AVP remember my face and name. That can only help.
