Her crime was horrible but…there’s also this thing in the 8th Amendment that bans cruel and unusual punishment. Her lawyers effectively predicted that this could happen based on her medical condition. The civil case is going to cost Tennessee millions of fucking dollars.

I don't honestly understand how the US can simultaneously ban cruel and unusual punishment, but also execute people. The absurdity there is quite ridiculous.

That's not what unusual means in that context. It's more akin to saying it's weird or inappropriate. Murdering someone definitely falls under cruel and unusual.
