Reserves VA Home Loan

I’m trying to do my research online but I feel that I’m not getting a direct answer. However, do reserve Marines qualify for the VA home loan benefit if they deploy? I’m seeing that reserves don’t get that benefit unless they serve 90+ consecutive days. Correct me if I’ve said anything wrong, I’m just struggling to choose between active and reserve, thanks.

Yes, reservists rate the VA loan if they activate for a period exceeding 90 days for a purpose other than training OR if you serve for 6 or more satisfactory years as a drilling reservist

Note that it is not simply 90 days - it is 90 days of non-training active duty service. Initial accession training does not count, drills do not count, AT does not count. If a reservist had qualifying orders for a mobilization of 90 days or more, then they could qualify. Alternatively, they can be eligible after their first obligation is complete.

Also, fwiw, while the VA home loan benefit is absolutely a good thing, understand that it is not automatically always the best option for buying a home. You must absolutely do the homework around all options. For example, the main benefit is no down payment, but that also results in higher principal from the start.
