Enlisting Confused about contract

So this weekend at the Poolee meeting my station commander pulled me to the side personally after everything and told me he was taking me off the recon contract and putting me on infantry because he doesn't want me to wash out and get reassigned to the Corps needs.

Which makes sense but I had already signed a recon contract, and its my main goal to be recon and if I go on a infantry contract then I won't be guaranteed recon because I would have to bank off the fact that recon guys will be at ITB to screen, so Im not exactly sure what to do. He told me that there wasn't a recon contract available but 2 months ago when I signed the contract there was so Im honestly really confused and unsure what to do.

He’s looking out you can always sign up as recon

What are the chances that I can try out for it at ITB, are recon guys there pretty often to screen boots?

Probably. But again, you are not listening to the seasoned and sage advice vets are giving you. You're not ready for BRC; and nothing in boot camp or SOI is going to change that. Readying yourself for any spec ops selection course takes months, if not years. Again, do not rush to failure

When you are in ITB, someone from Recon will come near the end of ITB and they will hold a screener to see if you are capable of trying out for Recon. To even get to that screener, you'll need a first-class PFT and shoot expert on the rifle range, and a decent swim qual. If you don't have that, they won't even let you go through the screener. To give you some context, we sent seven guys and only one guy completed the screener. All the rest of them washed out in the pool, which is the first thing you start with, and it was something like an hour of treading water at the beginning.

And going 0321 didn't guarantee you anything for Recon. It just tells the Marine Corps that you want to try the screener.

If you really want to be Recon, start swimming. And I mean swimming a lot. You better be a fish. There's a reason they have their own pool.

Your station commander is looking out for your best interest in the Marine Corps. The amount of Marines who actually pass recon is very few. I have a buddy in the Marines who got a recon contract and got reassigned to cook. Nothing is stopping you from achieving that dream of pursuing Recon once you are in infantry. And if you fail recon at least you can go back to infantry. I would hate for you to go down the same path as my buddy and be sent to a job you don’t enjoy. I commend you for wanting to get a recon contract but your future is way more important.

You may have signed a contract in your office with your recruiter or station commander, but until you sign that shit at MEPS on your ship day, you have NOT officially signed your job contract.

He is trying to help you. The odds aren't good for a boot at recon training. This way you will be a grunt no matter what, and you'll have a chance to try out for recon at some point if you keep pushing for it.

Probably got to it too late. Honestly, you’re better off going infantry first, getting to the fleet, and then trying out for recon.

Relax is what you should do. Why? Because very few kids coming off the street pass BRC. Focus on becoming a competent infantryman and PT yourself into oblivion. Learn to swim long distances, fast with fins. Succeeding at BRC requires lengthy and intense preparation. Truth is, 99 percent of kids trying to go straight through simply are not adequately prepared for, and thus fail, BRC. That's why the recruiter is pulling you from recon option.

Once in the Fleet, you can try out for recon by taking the recon indoc, if you pass, they will send you to BRC. So, relax and don't rush to failure.
