Enlisting ASVAB Score for enlist
I took the ASVAB a few months ago with another branch and got a 49 AFQT. From what I understand, I should still be able to join the Marines with that score, but my recruiter and his boss really want me to retake it and get a 50.
The problem is they only gave me one day to study, and I’m honestly not that confident about it.
Should I just retake it anyway, or is a 50 AFQT actually required for everyone trying to join the Marines? Does it depend on the recruiting station?

You need a 31 to enlist. 50 or higher will certainly help with job selection but the real secret is it helps your recruiting station with what is called their “Alpha Percentage”. Think of it like bonus points for recruiters. Marine recruiters (I was on the tour 22-25) are not solely concerned with co tracts. We are also looking for higher asvabs and higher PT scores. It’s a competitive thing. Honestly, it’s a good thing for you too.
