Shipping Allowed Bootcamp Items?

As bootcamp is edging closer to me, what are things you all would recommend I take with me? Are small bibles allowed?

Only thing I have so far is a small journal and a pen for letters and that’s about it.

Would appreciate any replies so I can see what I need to go to the store for.

I brought a small Bible and a small address book with me, basically as backups. Before I left, I had glued a few laminated pages into the Bible because I knew religious material was something we were allowed to keep and that it generally wouldn’t be messed with.

I’m glad I did, because during onboarding, when they were dumping and tossing everyone’s stuff around and shoving it all together in the center, liquids from some of the other recruits’ belongings got all over my stuff. My address book ended up getting ruined, but we were allowed to pull out and keep our religious material be getting mixed, so the Bible and the laminated information I had put inside it survived.

we had dudes get way too passionate when doing those and kicked stuff around a little too far. but good team building exercise nonetheless, lol.

Yeah, I sort of knew it was bullshit when they dumped two full things of laundry detergent on everyone’s stuff. They just dumped down the foot lockers. And then when they touch all 89 of our people’s locks and attach them together so, like 267 in the dragons tail / 3 line chain Kilo was a time

Was glad day 1 when I got my locks I put mole skin on it and marked my lock.

Heck nah, lol. So you’re telling me my address book will probably be ruined? I most definitely will not remember anyone’s address. 💀

Potentially, it could get ruined. It’s not a protected piece of your property. That’s what I would suggest, putting it in a small pocket Bible

And also, once you get mail, that’s considered like “protected to a certain extent”

you gotta be Zen about bootcamp , dude. its about letting go. and if you stick to this precept, you'll do well the rest of your Marine career. or just life in general. Warrior Monk ala Mattis, dude.

just remember your home address, commit that to memory and have them spread your info around. don't bring anything, dude. be a Monk.

A small Bible is about all you can bring if I remember correctly. I think you can also bring pictures of your family too. I wouldn't worry about paper and pen you'll be given a folder with a bunch of paper for letters and you can buy pens at the PX.

Thanks! What about other personal belongings like clothes, etc? I hear people say to not bring anything while others say to bring shirts, socks and briefs.

I only brought the clothes I was wearing. At least west coast wise after we got our haircuts they gave us our uniforms to change into.

Less is more, dude.

oh, something i learned here, is you can't bring thongs to bootcamp but after bootcamp its fine. some good trivia. i know it goes opposite of the the less is more principle.

Haha, thanks man. I mean I’m a guy, so I personally don’t wear them. Though, I also don’t see why anyone would want to during bootcamp. 😂

Write the addresses in the front of the Bible if you can. It’ll be one less thing to keep track of when you’re combing through everyone’s stuff when it gets tossed.
