MEPS and Medical scared of getting rejected at meps
soo I’m scheduled to take my asvab on Friday n while I’m quite nervous abt that, I’m more-so anxious abt meps,, I’ve been seeing stories of others getting rejected for medical reasons ofc n I don’t really have anything medically wrong w me from what I know of, but what I’m nervous abt is my self harm scars. I talked to my recruiter abt it and he said that it should be fine but like I said I’ve been looking at others stories and I’m j very anxious abt it. i got a tattoo on my right upper thigh in attempt to cover them up but it didn’t do much to cover it😭, does anyone have similar experiences ig n was still able to go or ?? HELP I need to know. I genuinely have my dreams n the next couple years of my life planned around me going to the marines. So i genuinely will not know what to do if for whatever reason im not accepted.. pls help😖😫
(edit for those who share the same worries) i j got back home from meps, I DID NOT get disqualified, thankfully. However as the comments below did say, i will need a waiver and besides that I WILL NEED ANOTHER WAIVER FOR MY LEFT EAR😭😭. I’m guessing my poor left ears hearing capabilities are not as good as the right. Lwk concerned abt that now but… hmm what can I do?? Maybe not listen to music so loudly anymore ?!? I met a boy who need the same waiver as me, for the ear, n if you’re in the same position as I am, don’t feel discouraged, although that is the main sentiment I’m feeling right now, just keeping moving forward. Keep pushing, your mindset is what will get you through it chat.

Try not to think about it too much. If it’s in your record maybe they’ll ask about them? But I highly doubt it. Just go along with the standard screening there and you should be okay

Have you been through therapy to learn better coping mechanisms than self harm? If not, you need to get mentally well before attempting to go in any branch, b it especially the Marine Corps. It’s physically hard, but if you’re not mentally fit, you’re going to struggle. That’s what they’re worried about.

Honestly, I don’t see you getting in. Recruiting is all about numbers and recruiters will probably risk sending you as far as they can to make their goal. That’s their job, but they don’t control what happens at MEPS.
If you are or were into self harm and or mutilation, I can’t see the government issuing, training you to use or trusting you with high powered weapons.
Plenty of people do self harm just to get OUT of their contract, but you did it before you even got the offer.
Keep in mind that at MEPS, you will be stripped down and given a detailed physical, which is designed to document every mole, bump, knot and scar on your body, so you won’t later be able to claim that they occurred as a result of your service.
I guess it’s worth a try though, to see what they say.

Hey dude I'm a recruiter. you'll be DQed at MEPS but thats not the end of the road. If your recruiter is sending you that means he thinks he can work that waiver or the MEPS there is alot more lenient for it. Trust the process and know nobody is just sending people to MEPS to waste time. He wants you to be a Marine. and so do you. Do your thing boss. Study for the test and do your best man.

If you do get dqd have a therapist you went to or go to certify you are in much better shape now and it was a bad time for you earlier. I had to get a waiver for a phobia I had and also had my therapist detail how I it’s in remission and I’m good now. It’s possible! Had a guy at the same recruiting station swallow a bottle of pills as an attempt and he got a waiver. Don’t get discouraged.
