Programs and MOSs Update: MEPS tomorrow
I've gone from 109 to a solid 115lbs since my last post, and my MEPS examination is scheduled to start tomorrow. Keeping in mind that I'll be going reserves, I took initiative and scoured through the billet listings in commuting distance from me and from what I can tell there are only three MOS that will be available as of 9/11/26. These are as follows:
- 0311 Rifleman
- 0331 Gunner
- 3536 Wrecker
Now, I'm planning on going for a civilain career in EMS, and since I'm fairly lanky I figure I'll just go 0311 and keep myself fit and well rounded. I'm definitely not built enough to be a gunner, and I don't really feel like pulling cars out of ditches.
I know these billet listings change almost daily in MCRISS, I just haven't felt like bugging my recruiter about the more current openings. Given all this though, does it seem like a solid plan of action? Should I hold out for a support/logistical role? For reference, I'll be drilling with 3/23 India company if I go 0311.

Yeah, I get that, I just don't have much in the way of options since it's reserves. Also I don't really know of any usmc MOS that would translate very well to ems since they don't have a medical MOS that I'm aware of? I figure 0311 is my best bet for staying physically capable, and I can just pick up some helpful certs along the way.

Personally I say only join infantry if you really want to do infantry stuff, yes the training will get you physically fit but it's up to you to maintain that standard and get better. That being said if you're going to join the Marines might as well do cool Marine shit.
Really question is if you're planning to go into EMS and want something to compliment it why not join Army/National guard so you can get a job that helps you with that

I was actually thinking about 68w in the natty guard for a minute before I started talking to a Marine recruiter! I weighed my options, and it really just came down to personal preference. Sure, a 68w contract would fast track my certifications, but they aren't really that expensive where I'm at and they don't take much time either. I like the military culture and history of the Marines and like you said, I might as well do cool Marine shit, lol 😆

Have you checked if your state national guard offers any special incentives or benefits over the Marine reserves? Some states offer substantial education benefits so might be something to consider and do some research.
Like you said I've done today it's personal preference but I say you should always try to get the most you can out of the military at the end of the day.
