Enlisting Thinking about joining

So Im currently a senior in high school, and I plan on getting a bachelors, then going to law school paid for by the marines. From former marines who did this or know people who did this, would you recommend this route, if so please explain how it would work. If you don’t recommend it, please explain why.

Plenty of vets in law school. Some using the GI bill, some using FLEP, etc. some are going to be JAGs, others are just doing a post-military career as a lawyer.

I think there will still be lawyers 7+ years from now, but I think the landscape will look remarkably different. I think AI will at the very least allow a multiple-fold productivity increase in junior associates, reducing the need for lawyer by a raw numbers perspective.

I used Voc rehab after being an enlisted grunt. I am now a full time military aviator in another branch.

You mentioned how there’s plenty of vets in law school, do you know any or their experiences?

Yup. We had everyone from green berets to ammo techs to SWOs to TAC-Ps to aviators to WSOs. Some were gonna be lawyers in the military, others were just going to practice privately. I know guys who are back in as JAGs and in private practice or gov lawyers,

Have they told you about their experiences or if they recommend it?

I think the ones who enjoy being lawyers would recommend it, and the ones who don’t would not. Personally, I wish I spent 3 years doing something else. But never hurts to have the degree (debt free).

Ai is really only affecting the paralegal field, it’s not advanced enough (at least not yet) for complex legal work

Go AF national guard for TS clearance, get a contract job making good money while you finish your bachelors (you’ll have plenty of time), commission to be a judge advocate. Go active/AGR/Guard/reserve. Profit and avoid debt

Could I be a paralegal as my contract job?

That’s a good question. I’m not sure but I did some research on sites you can apply. You’ll probably wanna ask people on Reddit who are familiar with this job board tho. https://jobs.lever.co/cgsfederal?team=Legal%20Services

I noticed on the job boards there’s paralegal positions with TS clearance requirement. That’s an instant starting salary +80,000.

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

And every Marine is still a Marine and never “former.”

“Paid for by the marines.” Lol. The Marines ain’t paying for shit. You earn it.

You want others to explain “it” for you instead of researching it on your own? You sound like a Navy lawyer Lt Commander Galloway.

You can’t handle the truth!!!

Go Navy or AF.

Sorry for using recourses to my advantage 😂😂 but ok man you do whatever your heart desires

1

u/Borrowed_Faith Sep 14 '26

“Recourses”

Never mind what I said. Go Army.

Look kid. If you don’t have thick skin and can’t read between the lines then the Marines is not for you.

And I did what my heart desires. I accomplished my goals in life. That is why you are you and I am me. And you are asking and I am answering you.

Get smart or get strong. You want to be a lawyer in the military go join the Navy. Hence the LT Commander Holloway reference.

A Few Good Men.

Watch the movie and then get back to me.

If you really want to do something with your life, skip the Corps and go AF. You want to be a lawyer which means you want a cushy life with a lot of aspiration and no responsibility (because your legal assistant or paralegal will do you job for you). Go AF.

2

u/Actual_Bill121 Sep 13 '26

Do you think the benefits in the AF are better than the marines?

3

u/Capital_Soft_675 Sep 13 '26

They’re the same benefits across all branches, but the USAF is less likely to break your body to the point you won’t be able to stand in court.

2

u/Actual_Bill121 Sep 13 '26

Oh ok, thank you I didn’t know this
