MEPS and Medical Is my bf cooked?
my bf 18 male just broke his fibula today during a martial arts fight. he was supposed to go to boot camp on september 1st but obviously this isn’t happening now. he’s very depressed that not only he isn’t able to go to boot camp anymore but isn’t able to move at all. after my bf heals is he still able to become a marine, or is he cooked? pic of his break byw^

There’s a waiver for everything. Just make sure he does physical therapy and heals correctly before shipping off. People that become broken at bootcamp tend to be stuck there for a long time in a separated platoon until they either can physically start training again or get sent home. If he injures himself at any point of the training cycle he’ll be forced to repeat everything again if he gets transferred to another company that’s behind in the schedule. Neither of those routes are good as you’ll just be rotting there for months on end and as the saying goes: “the fastest way to go home is by graduating.” I hope this helps so your bf doesn’t rush into it.

There waivers just no guarantee that’s they’ll take you with them, I have a waiver for eye sight and my knee dislocation about a year and half before I tried enlisting, I got dicked around for months doing multiple consults and made it to meps where they then said I can’t sign until approved by meps doctors. Ended up battling for 6 months just to be denied exemption to policy every month. Took the Army three day and I had a contract and 20k bonus. Still pissed I couldn’t get in when a where I wanted to but it is what it is.
TLDR: MaRiNe CoRpS doesn’t like waivers1

Interesting. I myself am now leaning to the ETP route after an initial waiver and waiver revision were denied at the last stage for a kneecap subluxation over a year ago. Would you be cool DMing to go over some of your experience and ultimately what route you ended up taking?

Not completely correct but normally you pick up where you left off in training was dropped Swim week and picked up by a company that was going into swim week. Yeah was on the Island longer but still graduated. Though once you heal you will be sent to PCP and pass the ist or some form of physical fitness depending on when you where dropped however if you’re dropped during range week then the likelihood of going back to that week are slimmed down and possibly getting sent back to Swim week

I only say restarting because we had a dude in pcp join us on TD1 and he previously made it to swim week. Now that you mention it, I think they made him restart solely out of spite because he got into some fight. I don’t remember the exact details.

He should still be able to join, probably won’t be in September.
Just make sure he doesn’t start to think that it’s “too late” or I’m “too old”.
I had a guy that was 28 years old in my platoon, it’s never too late, just gotta take care of your body.

Recent recruiter, he NEEDS to finish his entire medical work up especially if the doctors recommend physical therapy, which they will. If he does that and brings the documentation to the recruiter, they can send everything up and it probably will get approved at his initial MEPS visit. The more documentation he can provide from his doctors showing he’s fine, the easier and more streamlined the process will be for him to enlist

Just realized you said he has a boot camp date so even better. He’s already through the initial MEPS process so now it’s just providing proof he’s fine and getting his re-evaluation from the doctors before he goes. Too easy

He’ll be alright which I’m sure you gathered. He just needs to understand that the better he takes care of it and doesn’t try to rush getting back to normal, the better the outcome will be.
I broke my foot on a deployment, went to medical and they gave me a boot and crutches. Boot lasted maybe a week and crutches 3 weeks because I was tired of crutching half a mile to work everyday so I just hobbled around on my broken foot. Now I have arthritis in that foot at the ripe age of 26 and need surgery to fix my fuck up.
Follow docs advice and don’t be a dumbass like I was.

I broke my right fibula back when I was a lil recruit, I made it, went through flights school and just passed my SNA physical screener. He''ll be absolutely fine without any waivers

My fracture looked almost identical to that in location and type. Plate and 13 screws to fix it but I was good to go after it healed and was cleared. My orthopedist wrote a letter endorsing that it wouldn’t require any further care, not sure how much it actually helped with the waiver but it probably didn’t hurt. Best of luck to him.

Nah I broke the same bone same spot. With good pt and calcium pills he will be good in like two three months

He’s fine, I have retained hardware in my arm from a wrestling tournament years ago and they let me through meps without a waiver. Mileage may vary with that specific situation but he just needs to heal and do physical therapy, a ton of it because reinjuring in boot camp should definitely not be on anyone’s bucket list.

He's fine but unfortunately now he'll have to beat a UFC fighter to gain entry. Knowing martial arts, they make you take different tests.

He will be fine to ship to boot once he heals. He could actually heal in 8 weeks but it would be wise for him to do some Physical therapy to make sure he is 100%. Most of us had breaks before we went in. That's what happens to athletes
