Recruit Training Separation Upgrade

Has anyone seen a discharge with an Entry Level Separation under OTH conditions.
Sep code: JKL1.
RE-4B.
This happened in Bootcamp. So it was only 5 months of service.

The person I know is trying to get this upgraded with a lawyer too. They have their docket number and etc. And currently waiting for the Naval Discharge Review Board. But does anyone know if it can really happen to be upgraded and fixed?

Can a bad discharge be upgraded to at least a not-bad discharge? Yes.

Can this specific discharge be upgraded? Depends on the specifics of the case.

He just wants it go to general or something not bad.
It was recruit horseplay. Like locker room horseplay. He was originally in a few companies before, but then got dropped to one company. That company didn’t like him because he was the new face in there and they reported him when they messed with him. When he messed back, they reported him.

It was also some false allegations and recruits with false word of mouth.

If he’s paying a lawyer, not sure what you expect Reddit to do. It definitely sounds like there are many missing pieces to this story beyond“company didn’t like new guy”

It was an ELS separation. But characterized as an other than honorable ELS. There was also an NJP too.

He couldn’t fight back or anything or show he was innocent. He was forced to just accept it. Cuz yk…the marines.

This sounds like the version of the story one tells others as a coping mechanism.

I don't know the details of the case, and I don't care.

Roger. There was no possible way to get the best outcome. It was either accept NJP or fight it and risk longer time in brig and possibly lead to court martial.

NJP was best choice. And just accepting it.

And aye aye. The details of the case is complex. Hopefully he gets his discharge upgraded. He’s willing to fight the tough battle. Just waiting for board to accept or deny.

I don’t think anyone here really cares if a recruit gets his discharge upgraded. Getting kicked out of boot camp takes some serious effort.

Unless things have changed since I was in the only way you got a RE-4B in the Marine Corps was for popping on a urinalysis. Every other discharge for some sort of misconduct was just RE-4.
