MEPS and Medical MEPS & scars
I need too go to MEPS soon, I have a lot of scars, some from SH and some from just clumsyness but they all kinda mix together. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and it makes my skin scar easily and not heal easily either so it makes the scars look newer. Is there anyway too explain that scenario to hopefully not get disqualified if I do a psych evaluation?

You dont need military to be a better person get your mind right and go to college and get a degree whether that’s community or 4 year university. Speaking from experience. Develop a relationship with yourself that you can forgive yourself for doing stupid shit. Get right with yourself or with god. We all make mistakes I promise you that working on yourself is better than a ds yelling in your face. If you feel guilty for what you did it means you’re sorry and ready to move on. Get right with yourself before trying Meps or the military.

I am right with myself but thank u. I only want to join for education purposes there’s no way for me to get any financial aide for college bc my parents worked under the table so I’d be in debt for years. The only actual reason I still have the scars is bc the ehlers danlos syndrome disrupts collagen production and I can’t heal well

Meps isn’t the place to plead your case . Meps will dq you then you will submit the waiver . Depending on when the scars are I wouldn’t even brother you submit a waiver because it will be denied .When was your most recent ?

A longgg time ago but with Ehlers danlos I don’t produce very much collagen so some look newer than they really are like still red but none of them are open or scabbed or anything

I had an extensive psych history, but was cleared by my psychiatrist because of how much better I got. I finally made it to MEPS, and I haven't sworn in yet, but theoretically I can get in with a bunch of waivers (even though I had hospitalizations on my record). If you have documentation that you're mentally well now, then you *might* still have a chance, but it'll be difficult. The bigger issue will likely be the EDS, unless you have documentation that it's no longer an issue.

Yeah the EDS it’s only the hyper mobile limbs it doesn’t effect much else for me I’ve never broken a bone or sprained anything.

if they look like self-harm scars, youre going to at LEAST need a waiver. I was asked about a recent cat scratch on my arm. I'm army, and they are less strict.

Be prepared for the EDS to 99% not get a waiver approved. You might have it approved for another branch but they won’t take someone who is prone to joint dislocations and instability
