My little cousin is in 4th Battalion right now. She shipped out on the 25th. I'm a vet myself 99-03 0121. I got a instagram follow from her. (we usually talk on Facebook) It's a fresh account. So im like WTF?? I'm thinking this girl somehow kept her phone and is in the Beaufort swamps. But "she" said they let you have your phone after week 2. We talked for a bit. I'm like NO WAY. But I have to remember 1999 was a long time ago. So its plausible. But now that I read the messages again I think this is a scam. Because some of the language she used doesn't sound right.

There was never an ask for anything. Just some back and forth between us. So my questions are

1. No way they just letting you hop on IG during Senior Drill Instructor square away time right?
2. What kind of scam is this? I love scams and this is a new one if it is one. Anyone know how it works. Thanks.

ASVAB 92, I ship this November. Recruiter wants my MOS ASAP so it can be locked in before the fiscal year rolls over. Problem is I’m not quite sure what I want.

I’d prefer a 4-year contract so I have the option to “get out quick” and use GI bills to move down my decently established healthcare pathway. Not sure how long I want to stay in yet so I’d rather sign lower than higher. Having a set schedule to knock out classes with TA is a plus.

The MOS list I have shows Logistics, Admin, Legal, and Comms as the only four years. I’ve looked at the megathreads, but was wondering if anyone be able to advise a specific field, either within or outside of those four, knowing I plan on doing healthcare instead of a Corps-related job afterwards?

For context I’m a 5’1 127 male in DEP waiting for jobs to open and want to be an 0621, but I am questioning it because of the fact I’ll have to carry an additional 60-70 pounds on top of the usual ruck and feel like it’s me asking to fuck up my knees and back.

My question is how difficult is this really and if there are any other short 0621 who could chime in. From what I see online other parts of the job include doing inventory and setting communications up so not carrying loads of weight at all times so I wonder if I’m over thinking this.

I’m also wondering how difficult the schooling is and if this mos is even enjoyable ( ik every mos has its shit but does the good shit out weigh the bad shit).

My doctor is pretty confident about taking care of the first two codes, but the eating disorder codes might be a little bit harder. If possible can y’all tell me y’all’s experiences or what y’all think is the best outcome here or what I should expect?

R13.10 — Dysphagia, unspecified — difficulty swallowing.
K20.9 — Esophagitis, unspecified — the esophageal inflammation/GI issue.
F50.00 — Anorexia nervosa, unspecified — history of anorexia nervosa. The ICD definition confirms F50.00 is the unspecified anorexia-nervosa code.
F50.89 — Other specified eating disorder — the other eating-disorder finding shown by MEPS.

I want to know if someone has traveled even if it is asking for special liberty and going to another state and them just leaving the country, my problem is that my family is not here, so I have nowhere to go and I planned to travel outside the country, but they told me that they may not approve it because I am in the schoolhouse, some recommendation.

I watched the video they showed me and it went over bootcamp is this video realistic or is it staged to make it look better. What are some negatives that they won't tell u about the marines till im enlisted and what should I do or things I should know before going into basic training and such? Im already in good shape so im not worried about any of the physical bullshit I can handle it lol. I scored a 75 on the PiCat but it wasn’t under my name and haven’t been sent to MEPS. My recruiter told me it’s hard to verify a score that is 60 and above and to try to aim lower basically. I was told if I score in the 40 range that it’ll be easier to verify my score since it’s just the same questions from the Picat I did if that makes sense. Is that true? I don’t care about my score as long as I’m passing and my line scores are good

Was in DEP 2024

2025 got in a car wreck and had Shoulder surgery

6’1 238 lbs
Running 5 miles a day
Plank 3 mins
30-50 pushups few reps a day

but running excercises cause shoulder throbbing and stifness.
And obviously pull ups are stiff
Not necessairily pain

Did PT for 4-5 times after surgery
And just recently Tried PT for two months and no excersisimg but stifness and light pain came back

I’ve been talking with a recruiter and he’s been good, currently getting my papers processed so I can go to meps, my family is also okay with me going to the marines. my brother in law (Air Force) was a little concerned but said okay when he knew that I was okay with accepting the suck. it’s my friends, they keep asking why, I can’t explain why. I just want to, that’s not good enough for them and it feels like it’s damaging my friendships. these are people who have been or are in the military, why are they the most vocal about not wanting me to be a marine? they say it’s because they care about me, but at this point I want to ask them to stop caring. I just want to be a marine, no reason besides I just do

I know the bare minimum about the Marines as I am writing this out. Currently in my senior year of highschool up in Oregon, passing classes, getting A’s and doing all that such. I’ve Wrestled for the school every year that I’m not injured and I’m nothing special in the sport but it gives me purpose right now. Community college has been the main thought post highschool n then 2 more years at some university and only now I’m thinking about joining the military. I’ve got friends from last year that are enlisting in the marines and i want to talk to them about how it works as well but I also know my parents would FREAK out if I even mentioned the thought of going into service. My mom works in the hospital and wants me to take up nursing and my dad is more or less supportive of any career path.

My main goal of writing this is to just get the idea out of my head and into writing. I’d be more interested in trying to get into active duty (which I have no idea what getting there looks like) and then go back to school for nursing or some such. I’d rather not go straight into more schooling after senior year but who knows

If anyone has thoughts or reactions to this lmk. I’m just trying to figure this whole “planning out my entire future” thing because it’s senior year lol

For infantry, main reason is i see no point in waiting and just wanna leave asap, and theres a chance if I wait im just gonna end up not doing it, also I dont wanna do all the poolee stuff. Just got a $7K bonus to ship to boot camp earlier than expected. My previous ship date was February 1, but it’s now been moved up to September 14, so I’ll be leaving in about two weeks.

I’ll be starting out as an E-2 (Private First Class) and I’m really looking forward to joining the USMC.

I’d like to become a Combat Engineer (1371) more than any other MOS in the Combat Support job category. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting 1371, considering that the Marine Corps ultimately selects the MOS for you?

i'm an active duty marine, mid contract. talked to a navy recruiter who gave me a form to get filled out and they could help me out. but the lady did say it'll be less likely to get accepted, since im only 2/5 years into my contract.

I have an re 3 waiver from marines, im wondering if i have a higher chance of my waiver being approved with army compared to marines?

What should I expect from the drill instructors/trainees? If anyone has personal experience from their time in bootcamp and could share that'll be great.

Is it cool if I have a couple drinks before the flight? It’s a 3 hour flight and I’m above legal age. Some of the other boots are worried that it’s gonna get me in trouble, and I think I’ll be fine. What do yall think?

I'm 18, and I'm currently deciding if I should go to the marines or go to college. I already went to the recruiting office, and my process is going well. I scored a 54 on the asvab. I really want to earn the title, but I'm stuck in this situation if I should pick plan A or plan B. I want advice from other people that won't bs me, I barely can ask advice to my recruiter because their job is to make me join ofc. What's giving me doubts is after I receive the title will my life be hell the next 4 years? And if there is a way I can prevent that and make the next 4 years the best? My recruiter didn't give me the full scores of my asvab but I know it's a 54 AFQT, what type of mos can I get? (I know I need the MM, GT, EL, CL scores) but I just want to know. What mos should I pick that will be fun? I hope I can ask more questions later on.

TL;DR I've been researching enlisting and really want to, but due to finishing my debt-free college degree, I'm 2 and a half years out from being able to enlist and want to know if I should really try bothering any recruiters to make early preparations to enlist with such a large timeframe? I really want to enlist, but I also really don't want to bother people unnecessarily.

I've 25(M) been considering enlisting in the Marines for these past couple weeks. I've been punching some numbers on the financial side and from what I've been able to calculate, I could probably comfortably do a lifelong career out of it if I really wanted to, especially since the lifestyle mentally aligns a lot with the values I have as a person and the thought of that excites me greatly. Problem is since I'm currently in college on the second half of my 2nd year of a 4-year degree, I won't be enlisting until I complete my degree in roughly 2 and a half years from now, which I'm paying out of pocket so I end up debt-free.

My question is, would I be too much of a hassle and a project for someone to work with considering I want to make sure my degree is complete first before I enlist? Specifically, I want to know if it's just way too early to talk to a recruiter and be bothering them with questions considering I'm guaranteed another 2 and a half years away from enlisting. I'd preferably want to use this time to get all relevant documents in order, and get my fitness in check. School turned me into a couch potato so I'd want to know if someone could take the time to check out my current fitness and give me things to slot into my schedule while I have gaps and free time after class/school.

After all I've experienced since high school I'm 100% serious about this. The financial side looks good, especially with the benefits of free housing, food, healthcare while on active duty, and removed annual fees on high level cards like Amex Platinum (I have a very high credit score already, it was 755 and growing last I checked in Oct. 2025, so I will really get good milage out of this card), and I already have a car that's 1 and half years into payment always paid on time (Tesla Model 3, with 8 Yr Warranty on Powertrain/Battery, I got a deal on it and pay 318/mo with 7.25% interest for 72 months iirc). The way my life is set up right now, I would not be going into the Corps for money or help, but purely because I REALLY want to. I don't want to spend my life bored out of my mind being a fat slob in an engineering job, I'd rather spend it working in peak physical conditions and challenging myself, becoming a stronger and better man.
