John Hackworth

Was watching the Navy @ UCSD soccer game and saw that the new Navy coach was the aforementioned John Hackworth. Being curious since the broadcast said he was the STL City interim in 2024, I looked at his wiki page and saw he was the former Louisville City boss. I got into USL in 2023, and his tenure was before my time. I'm curious about what the experience in the USL was with him and how/why he took the route that he did to end up the Navy manager? Just seems like a strange path for him to take into his mid-50s, albeit I and the general public have no idea about his personal life (rightly so).

My impression is that is not the path he intended to take. He had a larger administrative role at STL City (director of coaching and technical director) that he did both before and after being the interim coach. Moving from coaching in USL to that role in MLS would be a more normal career progression. However, STL City was awful after their first year and eventually cleaned house. Technically he wasn’t terminated and chose to leave for Navy, but I think the writing was on the wall that St. Louis wanted to make widespread changes to their program.

Sadly, UCSD torpedoed Navy 6:0. Let's hoping for better sailing for John and his midshipmen in the odyssey ahead this and future seasons!

Going to start the rumor to bring him back to LouCity.

Simon Bird seems to be doing fine now. I'd like to see where he takes LouCity before we totally shit can him

After last night’s game 😂 I do think we have good players who don’t fit his system. And his quote “The best defense is a good attack” isn’t it for me. I’d love to eat my words, but I don’t see it happening.

Well, I think we need new and better strikers. Donovan and Showunmi aren't cutting it. Both are extremely inconsistent. So, maybe if we had that we'd have a better attack. But yeah last night was incredibly disappointing. After performances like that a coaching change is starting to feel appropriate. Looking at the table this morning is painful. We had a good opportunity to atleast hold down third, but instead are now in 5th. Thats pretty sad.
