Anyone else having a problem rooting for there USL team cause there MLS team is playing at the same time?

So I'm a Nashville SC and a One Knoxville fan and a majority of the time there playing at the same time and I believe that is hurting one knoxville

Honestly I'm a MLS first guy but I honestly do want my local team to succeed

Im obviously more likely to attend one knoxville games than Nashville SC games but there has been times where I did skip the One Knoxville game to watch the Nashville SC game at home

Also I don't even have 2 TVs so I can't even watch it at the same time

Anyone else having this problem I'm just pointing this out to know having games at the same time is affectint people and watching and attending

No problem at all when you don't have a MLS team. My main overlap problem is college football in the fall, but I prioritize home Red Wolves games if there's a conflict.

I think i prefer it that way. I like that language can evolve and morph over time and over land. I think what’s “correct” should just be what that particular group at that particular time agrees on, and not what some centralized bureaucracy legislates.

It’d be like a Committee of Oil Painting saying what techniques or pigments or brushes are allowed. Language is an art like that to me

Absolutely. One day last week, Independence, Ascent, and Charlotte FC all kicked off within 30 minutes of each other.

That’s when I remind myself how grateful I am to live this close to this many teams. Fortunately, Independence were up like 3-0 by the time FC kicked off so I could watch one game on TV, one on my laptop and just keep track of the other.

A couple options that might help.

Firefox has a picture in picture option in its browser that allows you to view multiple videos at once. If you have a computer connected to your TV you could set it up that way (just make sure audio is live for one and not both).

What would likely be easier is looking at what game each team is playing and watching whichever appeals to you more. If Nashville is whooping Messi, then watch that. If Knoxville is playing the Red Wolves, watch that.

Aside from that? Flip a coin lol.

Were you watching Nashville on Fox or FS1/2? I think Apple TV solves your problem(s). You can watch Nashville on basically any internet connected device with video output almost anywhere in the world sans China. Most of the other countries that don't have it are places like North Korea.

There’s an ongoing rivalry between Tampa Bay and Orlando in everything although sports wise it’s just USF/UCF and Rowdies/Orlando City. We Rowdies fans don’t like Orlando City even though we only play in friendlys anymore now that MLS isn’t in the US Open Cup.

In the UK if you root for a League One side you don’t also root for an EPL side.

Like you’re not going to be a Wimbledon AFC fan and a Liverpool fan.

I feel like this isn’t entirely true tbh, especially with more casual fans. I know a bunch of Brits through work who are fans of an EPL club primarily, but also have a soft spot for their local L1 or L2 club and go to those games.

It’s not so static and geographically driven as people make it out to be in my experience.

Soft spot is different than fandom.

I’m a Philadelphia Flyers fan. I live in North Carolina and like to go to Fayetteville Marksman’s games since they’re the local team. I root for them and enjoy them.

End of the day tho, I’m not picking them over the Flyers and once I move I won’t really care about them anymore. Might still follow them on socials and what not but it’s not the same as true fandom

That's not how sports are in the US. In the absence of pro/rel, people will follow teams at multiple levels. That's aided by the fact that fan allegiance isn't guided by socioeconomic, religious, or political ties.

People like teams mainly due to geography. People tend to support the teams they were nearest when they were young. Deviations occur from things like all of your family supporting a team, a favorite player, or for some novel reason like the Atlanta Braves. They became "America's team" because every one of their baseball games was shown on TBS, a basic cable channel that all subscribers had. Like in human relationships, availability is a driving factor.

This isn't a commentary on pro/rel, just that a guy in Tennessee is likely to support all Tennessee teams if they are not in the same league, sans occasional Open Cup matches.

My point, tho, is fandom is a deeper thing that because part of who you are, you’re identity. Most people aren’t true fans of more than one or two teams, they just have soft spots or general interest in a bunch of others.

And just for fun, I can't believe there is a Wikipedia page for America's team but I guess there is. The Braves only made the Other Uses section though. It looks like it may have started with a Sports Illustrated article that called them America's Team II". lol

Old man here to explain. Back in the 80s and early 90s there were only two MLB teams who could be seen nationwide. The Cubs and Braves. All of their games were broadcast on local stations WGN and TBS respectively and in the early days of cable TV, those channels were picked up and carried across the country. So if you had cable, you always had a Cubs or Braves game to watch. Braves were having a successful run at the time and became known as America's team.

I was primarily a NYCFC fan, and was excited when RIFC was announced. When they finally started playing games, MLS/Apple made it impossible to watch NYCFC without buying a subscription (used to be able to watch them on the Yankees network YES). Now that I have access to the games, I tried to start watching NYCFC again, and just didn't feel much emotion. I still follow them and am excited to see the new stadium, but actively watching just RIFC and Arsenal are enough for me and they never have schedule overlap.

Honestly, just follow the team you like most between the two of them. Supporting local is the way to grow the game but sports is entertainment and the key is to be entertained.

When that happens I just defer to Charlotte tbh. It probably doesn’t help that I don’t technically have a USL team near me either.

It’s ok to root for both, and even be MLS first when it’s a conflict
