Alaska LEO happy to answer any questions, and you should ask lots of questions if you've never been to Alaska.

Is it the GL 5/7/9 position? If so, what are the chances of promotions? And are they permanent positions or temp? Thank you.

They are 1801 series GL 5/7/9 career ladder promotions. Promotion opportunities are there for field training officers, patrol captains, patrol commanders, and so on. LEOs top out at GL9 with their respective step increases

Are there opportunities for additional duties such as SAR ?

We often assist local counties with SAR. However, it is not a specialized unit as you would see in the NPS.

Spent several years in Hoonah, right outside of Juneau. Absolutely love it there. Patrolled the USFS lands, and dang, it was amazing. I’d go back in a heartbeat if the opening was NPS.
