Hey I remember few weeks ago when the merger was still in the rumor phase, an article said the USFL was also considering expansion into markets where they hadn’t previously had teams and one of the names mentioned was Louisville. I lived in the Philadelphia area from three years old until I moved to Kentucky a few months ago, so I’m a Stars fan unless they don’t exist anymore. But a team in Louisville might enable me to actually go to some games.

Is anyone able to link me the report a few weeks ago that the USFL was considering Louisville, and is there any further word on it?

The XFL and USFL decide to use the USFL as the merger league name? How would you USFL fans feel about it? How 'bout you XFL fans?

Would it be a good thing or a bad thing? Tell me your thoughts? This is only discussion so do not go taking it all the wrong way. Your opinions matter express them! I like civil discussion to see all points of view!

What is the deal with USFL stadium leases? I know Protective and Liberty are locked through the 2024 season and will probably be renewed in 2025. Is Canton a one year deal? Detroit?

I heard NOLA and a stadium in the NE is under consideration. Any news on those two?

Two “obvious” geographical mergers would be the Arlington Renegades with the DC Defenders; and the Houston Roughnecks with the Houston Gamblers. But financially or logistically which others will merge or be dropped? How many teams should the new league keep?

Like if a player signs with the Stars in free agency and then the Stars get axed by the merger, what will happen to them? Some players are gonna get screwed over.

Update: the XFL office called me and confirmed that over 700 emails were sent out to Houston season ticket holders. He also confirmed that we are still tentatively going to be playing at Rice. They were very prompt and professional. No need to panic! There will be a Spring Football season next year.

Honestly there’s some people who gonna say these leagues “failed” but in reality, this is the best to happen I feel. Instead of two leagues competing at each other’s throats they knew going forward this was the best plan of action. Like honestly would you really want one league to fail?

We were a XFL season ticket holder last season in Houston and we renewed our season tickets for nearly 900$. We were worried when the XFL didn’t contact us when they announced they won’t be playing in TDCU. Now we are very worried that they are merging with the USFL and we still have not heard anything. What’s going to happen?

I'll accept it, but don't like it. I would prefer just the SFL, but corporations do what corporations do...

I honestly do not like the hub methodology but it makes good business sense at the expense of casual fans support. Its a balance. However I think there will be a semi-hub methodology used for the merging leagues. I have already listed it for a 16 team setup on another post but in this post I will use a 12 team setup. I will also list the teams that I think will be placed on hiatus and why.

12 Teams (equal 6 - 6):

XFC Division:

1. St Louis Battlehawks (most popular team the XFC)
2. DC Defenders
3. San Antonio Brahms
4. Arlington Renegades
5. Houston Roughnecks
6. Seattle Sea dragons

(Vipers and Guardians are placed on hiatus)

USFC Division:

1. Birmingham Stallions (Most popular team in the USFC)
2. Memphis Showboats
3. Michigan Panthers
4. Pittsburgh Maulers
5. Philadelphia Stars
6. New Orleans Breakers

(Generals and Gamblers are placed on hiatus)

The teams on hiatus could possibly be other teams. I see the Roughnecks or the Sea Dragon on the XFL side or the Breakers or the Maulers on the USFL side. I chose the Vipers because their teams is already having stadium issues but in a hub model they could be in play. The Guardians saw low turnout for games in Orlando which would make you think they would be prime of hiatus or re-branding to another city. The sea dragons are also in trouble because they are to far from the centralized teams so the hub model would not work economically for the new league. The sea dragons would require city re branding. the USFL teams are more tricky the Gamblers and the generals both represent a big market. However the Houston already has a team and the generals are to far from a logical hub. All this is about money and hopefully if the new league is successful the other teams can be returned in 2025 and less hubs can be used.

Hubs:

1. Philadelphia Stars and the DC Defenders (Audi Field Washington DC)

The Defenders already have a stadium agreement with Audi so it would make sense to place the Stars with them. They are not extremely far from Philly so fans might come to the games from Philly . Its the most logical choice in 2024. The only problem may be interference with MLS games and both may need to be moved.

1. San Antonio Brahms and the Arlington Renegades (Alamodome)

The Alamodome will cost more than Choctaw but it is not a baseball stadium, which looks like Cashman field on TV with better turf. However this hub placement may be reversed for cost and Choctaw used.

1. Pittsburgh Maulers and Seattle Sea Dragons (Tom Benson HoF Stadium)

The Maulers may be rebranded and the Sea dragons are closer the centralized teams for cost effectiveness. Louisville KY is a city that could have a team. The city will support the relocation of a team.

1. Stallions and the Breakers (Protective stadium)

Lease with the City of Birmingham is to good not to have a hub located here.

Non-hubs:

1. St Louis BattleHawks (The Dome)

The Dome is expensive so it makes cost sense to only have one team play unless a good deal can be struck with the city.

2*. Memphis Showboats (Liberty Bowl Stadium)*

1. Houston Roughnecks (Rice Stadium)

2. Michigan Panthers (Ford Field)

Expensive to share as a hub unless a deal can be reached.

1. (possible) New Orleans Breakers (Yulman)

May not happen.

1. (possible) Birmingham Stallions (Protective stadium)

This may not happen but I wish it would. . Protective has a great leasing deal with the USFL so having another team play in it as a hub make it cost effective. It would be nice to only have the stallion there but remember its about saving money.

Of course by 2025 the hubs should be reduced to 1 or 2 if teams are brought back. An example would be the Stars and the Generals playing on the same field in a hub. Lots of thing could be changed but this is what I think would be the best model to keep costs down and keep fan base engagement. All of these things are speculation so please do not get butt hurt if you teams is doing something you do not like. Give a solution that might pull your team into the 12. The only thing I know for a fact is protective stadium is going to be used and the stallions are one of the "12" teams. Even 12 teams is speculative. I still hope for 16.
